Can I make a suggestion???

Let me preface this with the fact that I do not EVER enter picture, essay or other type of voting contests. So I don't give a goats butt on these contests....

But can I make a suggestion?

I see some folks from another site who come here, show up and suddenly ask for votes.. and then have not even bothered to come back to talk to anyone once they lost or won...

maybe have someone be required to be here 3 months with 100 posts that are not "congratulations" or something like almost every other site requires?

I just think it's not fair to have someone show up here for a contest that is 'one vote per day' to suddenly ask for votes.. and then disappear completely... when some members have been here a lot longer and are in the same contest.

Just a suggestion. :sunny:

:sunny: This topic has come up several times. I don't particularly like people just popping in to get votes and so I don't vote for them. There are rules for posting.
see: http://www.sweepsadvantage.com/smf/index.php?topic=11433.0

In the end, we are all adults and can make our own choices about whether and who we vote for. If you notice, most people that pop in just to get a vote and haven't been been participating in the SA forum before, don't get alot of votes.
When it comes to 2 or more members posting for the same contest, I look at them both and then vote on the merit of both entries, not on how many posts they have made.

This topic gets a lot of us fired up! I even mad a butt out of myself not to long ago over one of these contest to get someone to come back and post thank you's to our people...again, I agree that if you don't want to vote for someone just don't. I know it leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth when they feel used, I have learned to overlook those that I don't want to vote for!

I JUST mentioned that this afternoon to hubby about how someone that you've never seen on the forum b4 asks for a vote :nono: . I'm likely to NOT vote for them and vote for anyone else if they've never posted here b4. I felt almost as mad at getting a PM asking me to vote for them! :cussing: It would be different if the person participated in some of the conversations in the forums! Just my opinion....

oops..

Me thinks I opened a can of worms. :error: :crazytongue:

soooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy (you know, said the way your kids say it! lol)

Most sites have a set of rules for this, selling, etc. I like that.

Of course, if I ever DID a voting contest.. I'd just bribe everyone with Chocolate Sweepstakes & Giveaways

You don't have to apologize, nothing wrong in expressing your opinions and observations. They do get discussed. As far as thte bribing with chocolate, that would be acceptable to me!

yep! this has come up before  I vote for SA members period. I dont think they have to post in the forums alot but hey, can ya pop in and say hello or give congrats once in awhile. That would go along way with me.

maybe I was a little blunt. I just figure if you can go to the forum and ask for votes then you probably know where the forums are & should say hi and congrats (as you said). Maybe one day I'll need someone's vote for something - but I consider ya'll friends and wouldn't think of asking people who weren't my friends. So - my friends - I will continue to vote for you. I enjoy your company!

I dont think you were blunt at all. It really is a sore subject for alot of folks here. We dont like to feel like we are being used.

I feel the exact same way. I really try to make a point to vote for our members every day. We have a small community here, so it's more difficult to get votes. There have been several lately that have voting contest, and that's their first post. I took one look, and said no way. The other one's that aggravate me are the one's that say the prize goes to charity, but fail to mention there is also a prize for them. Don't get me wrong, I think it's fine to try to win that prize, but don't make it sound as if you're not getting anything, and it's all for the good of charity. It just seems kinda slimy to me, but that's only my opinion, not worth much.

Yeah ~ one of those ~ oh, I just happened to leave that out moments??? Yeah right! Be up front! If it is truly for charity I don't care who is asking for it, I will vote. It might be me asking one of these days...but if there is a prize in it for me, that will be posted also!!!

OH...if you read THIS post I automatically get .50 cents ~ so thank you! Microsoft and Bill Gates have made a decision that since I can't win a prize the legal way that they are just gonna pay me for posting in this column...you are helping me by reading it. It is to late to back out now, we have already completed an eye scan and know that you have read it so you are busted!!! Thanks again!

You just cracked me up!!! Hubby thought I was losing my mind!

But, did you forget to read the fine print??? It said that all the proceeds would be going to charity!

Two more cents to throw in here. I agree that it is uncool of people who do the bulk of their sweeping elsewhere to come here and beg for votes, but if they are following the rules, I don't want to discourage them. Some of these people may eventually realize that they're better off here. Some of these folks will also return votes, which helps our other members. Another thing to consider is that most of the people who visit SA don't talk to us in the Forum. We have members who have been with us for years who don't speak up until they want to share a good win, or less frequently, ask for a vote. I like to think that SA is a welcoming site. So long as people are following the rules, I would support anyone's right to ask for votes. (I might not choose to vote for them, but they can ask).

I am so happy you brought this issue up!!!! :headbang:

I'm the one who pushed for some standards in the beginning because it isn't fair. I think it bothers me so much because I know other sites' standards are so high that we could never ask for votes there.

I hate even more when they come her and post all over just for Winzy points because other sites no longer allow those buttons. :cussing:

I feel like we are being used and being laughed at all at the same time.

On the other hand, GSW has a great point and it is the only point that keeps me grounded on this issue. Maybe one or two will try to be a part of our community and check out SA. I think they will find all the features they look for elsewhere but can't find.

A piece of advice: You don't have to vote for anyone. I always check other sites to see if the vote request is posted elsewhere. If yes, I won't vote for that person. I want to help SA members.

It has gotten out of hand lately and many that post vote requests quite often are not, in my opinion, "real" SA members. They are actually members from another site that only come here for votes. I skip them. If I discover someone that requested votes here has posted the win on another site, you better believe I call them on it and instruct them that it is only right that they thank the members here.

All I can say is I vote for people I have gotten to know and respect here at SA. If you need votes, come and let us get to know you a little bit.

Don't let this issue get to you. Although I know in my heart that real SA sweepers don't stand a chance because of the greedy members of other sites, I always keep hope that they will wake up and see SA for what it is: A community of great people that enjoy the best sweeping tools on the web. And, we also have a great webmaster that listens and has the programming skills to turn promises into reality!

Look at all SA has to offer. I'd rather deal with a few people who come here only to troll for votes or winzy points than to deal with an inferior sweeping set-up. We win! :headbang:

You are very kind, GSW, as are the rest of you! You all should be very proud of how your site is ran and the kindness that each of you display to everyone that posts here, regardless of how often one posts.

With that being said, I too agree that it is WAY uncool for those that take the time to sweep and participate heavily at OTHER sites to come here and ask for votes. It's tacky, rude, tasteless, and self-serving. I always wonder where they get their nerve and what sort of similar things they do in real life. I hope, at least, that they return votes like you said, GSW. That only seems fair.

Like the OP, I don't enter these types of contests/sweeps, but I DO believe a little consideration goes a long way.

I have a pet peeve that hasn't been mentioned: people who do a reply post begging for votes in someone else's post about a win in the winners circle. :cussing:

Talk about stealing someone's thunder, and being rude! :nono:

Congrats.

:thewave:VOTE FOR ME!!!!!!!! :thewave:

or something like that.
