American Idol

I feel so bad for David Archuleta. At first I didn't really believe the rumors about David's dad being overbearing, but I saw a clip on the Internet of Naomi Judd saying that he's the worst kind of stage dad. Judd was a judge for star search back when David was on, so she's somewhat of a reliable source. She also said that Archie's father was so bad that they had to put him in the security box!

I haven't seen that interview, but from what I have heard that wouldn't surprise me...I hope he gets a great contract and gets away from him...even though my gut says that he won't ~ he is probably to beaten down!

Yeah, part of me wonders if Archie's timidity is due to mistreatment. I hate saying that, because one never really knows another family's situation, but at the very least, it seems from the Judd interview and other things I've read that his dad is a bit of control freak in all areas of Archie's life. Whether that's because he's the family star and Dad is living vicariously through son or it's simply a matter of a dad loving too much, who knows?

Personally, I'm having a hard time deciding between the two Davids. Archuleta certainly has a better voice, but I think Cook brings something extra to his songs. DC simply has more life experience and has dealt with more situations that he can use in his music. It's a tough call. They're both very good.

P.S. I don't like Jason or Syesha. Syesha has some pitch issues, and Jason is... well, unique.
Don't get me wrong ~ I love Archie's voice, but I'm not sure that he should win...I think DC has showed more originality and can be a great over-all singer. It should make for a interesting final!

OMG! Did I read that correctly? Did you just dis my sweetie? Can't have the guy for yourself, so you start bad-mouthing him. I warned you about saying bad things about Archuleta, Tammy.
You know I love him! I just don't know if winning would be either one of the David's best bet. When they win, then they are just basically hostage to Idol for at least a year.

Both are going to be huge, HUGE stars ~ there is no doubt of that! I just really want what is best for Archie. I think if his Dad would leave him alone he would do so much better. I think the kid is a nervous wreck...it is almost like he is on autopilot at times.

I still want him for my SIL though...I don't think you could ask for a better kid ~ at least now! I hope he keeps his innocent ways about him!!

I think you hit the nail on the head about Archie! And I do like both David's. I have to say that since he got his hair cut I think DC is smokin' hot...just raw sex appeal going on there ~ me likey!

Unique is a very good word to describe Jason ~ I think his appeal would have to be limited.

Well, I have to say that Archie was my favorite tonight! I didn't like DC's first song that well, and the second one didn't blow me away either!

I think unless something really strange happens that this was Jason's last performances! Both of those were pretty bad!

DAVID C! DAVID C! DAVID C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. gonna win the whole thing. David A is cute and has a nice voice but David C has more talent and will sell more records. Although given the track record of AI winners It might be better if he comes in second.

Jason~~ What can I say. I just want to scream at the TV hey! you are a white boy OK! Do not do Marley. He sucks.

Syeshia~ lovely voice, very cute girl will come in third.

Its going to be the two david's in the end.

I hit post and tammy beat me to it. we were typing at the same time

Great minds think alike!

I think both the David's will be big stars...I like them both!!

Mixed bag this week. Nothing knocked my socks off, but some performances certainly made me cringe. Quick thoughts and out-of-10s:

David Cook - Good job on Hungry Like the Wolf and Baba O'Riley. I love how he puts so much into his songs without overdoing it. However, his voice did sound a little tired in spots. Score: 8

Syesha - I hated everything about the Tina Turner impersonation. Second song was decent, but there was an iffy note in there. Score: 5

Jason - OMG. Absolute crap! The only thing positive thing about his performance was the fact that he communicated with the audience a bit more as one of the judges pointed out. Score: 2

Archie - Very nice job this week. Decent rendition of Stand by Me. Unique take on Love Me Tender, but not sure I cared that much for all sections of the arrangement. Score: 9

I think David A will...I will be surprised if David Cook does ~ even though I can't wait to get his record!!! I love both of their voices!

So David A. will win and David C. will come in second!

David C is gonna win. David A is cute and all but he is so old fashioned. have you heard him sing anything that would be a hit today? I havent.

I think he will do fine. Right now, he is just trying to get through the competition. I think when they have someone to write for him he will shine!

Here's my LATE take on this week's show:

David Cook: first song, "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran...solid performance; nice song rendition. I have always liked that song anyhow. The second song, which I call "Teenage Wasteland", but which actually called "Baba O"Reilly", by The Who...another solid, rocking performance. Good job!

Syesha Mercado: first song, "Proud Mary", by Tina Turner; nice job...she rocked the song, with dance moves and all. Her second song, "A Change Is Gonna Come", by Sam Cooke...nice bluesy performance. Syesha was dressed marvelously!

Jason Castro: first song, "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley...bad performance...omg! He just doesn't have what it takes to sing reggae. Ever. His second song, "Mr. Tambourine Man", by Bob Dillon...he forgot the fraking lyrics, fer gawd's sake! I knew that was his death knell.

David Archuleta: first song, "Stand By Me"....was wonderful. His voice is so pure! His second song blew my mind, "Love Me Tender", by Elvis Presley. OMG! HOWL....! Totally awesome...this song rendition was packed with emotion. Either Randy or Paula said that every word of the song came out wrapped in feeling. He could have been singing that song to me...I actually got goose-bumps.

================================================================

Now, after the vote........I just knew it would be Jason Castro. :crazytongue: Especially after his major gaffe with forgetting the lyrics to the song he was singing. Duh! He knew it also...or should have known. Randy was right when he told Jason to pack his bags. Hehehehe...good bye to those awful, nasty, dirty-looking dreadlocks. :crazytongue: Good bye to mediocrity.

I do think that David Archuleta will walk away with this...with David Cook right on his heels. A wonderful conclusion...a David-David winning team! Ah...they could make a sandwich with me in the middle. :crazytongue:

David Archuleta's dad loses 'American Idol' backstage pass

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Backstage meddling has caught up "American Idol" favorite David Archuleta's dad, who's been banned from rehearsals, a person working for the TV talent contest said Friday.

Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join 17-year-old son as David as he prepares for the show, the person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person wasn't authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Jeff Archuleta's intense backstage involvement had become a source of concern for the series, the person connected with "American Idol" said — but it was a lyric change on Tuesday's show that pushed producers to act.

Dad needs to go! He needs to leave David alone and stop stressing him out, especially now that he can see the finish line. Dad should be supporting his son, not trying to run the show. If David wins, he should seriously think about leaving home and getting the crap away from Dad. :crazytongue:

Syeshia was very good but its going to be the david's.. I would looooove to see david a go home. He is just so blah. He sounds the same every single week. He was really, really boring tonight. Could he sing an upbeat song once in awhile. He is so depressing makes me want to open a vein.

As thomasisunderrated posted -- BLASPHEMY! :nono: Off with your head. Ping, inform Wolfie of this violation. 3mnkids1 needs to be punished in some way.

To David's defense, he didn't get to choose but two of the songs this week...only one; which was an upbeat, modern song. I think he should stick to the ballads. As Simon Cowell once told David..."he could whistle the song and still be better than the other contestants." :crazytongue:

Here is my recap:

David Archuleta: "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel; another solid performance.
"With You" by Chris Brown; a decent performance, and different from what he usually sings.
"Longer" by Dan Fogleberg; sappy, but sweet.

Syesha Mercado: "I've Got You" by Alicia Keys; BLAH! A so-so performance.
"Fever" by Peggy Lee; BLAH! Part 2
"(something about penguins"); BLAH! Part 3

David Cook: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack; an awesome performance, very nice indeed!
"a song from Switchfoot"; BLAH! Not his best; he was pitchy.
"Don't Want To Miss A Thing"; he rocked that song; very good.

None of the songs were really great. I look for Syesha to get the boot tonight.

Well it came down just like I thought it would! David x David for the finals...it was set many, many weeks ago as far as I am concerned...I don't care what anyone thinks, the producers wouldn't have had it any other way!

I just got to watch the show from last night tonight ~ but I will be downloading (if I can!) David A's 'And So It Goes' and David C's 'The First Time' and 'Don't Want to Miss a Thing'! I still think Archie will win! I enjoy watching him as well as David C., but I think Archie's fanbase is gonna send him soaring next week. Teenyboppers have more patiences with the voting crap than older people!

American Idol tour is coming to Evansville for the first time and I would LOVE to go see it this year. MAYBE I can convince Jimmie to let me go...
