$40,000 in Fridays Mega Millions

Well, it's not a Sweepstakes Plus win, but its a win--and my biggest to date by far. Friday I received an email that I had won one of those Kamado grills from a sweepstakes, so I called my husband at work and asked him to check his email and sure enough, he had won one too in the same sweepstakes. I couldn't believe it... I was feeling pretty lucky. Later that night I decided to play the numbers off of the fortune cookie I received from my Chinese takeout... and to think I was planning on leaving them a bad review for their terrible food... I signed into my lotto app account yesterday morning to check and a winner message popped up. I didn't have my glasses on, so I had to focus to find the decimal point. It came at a great time too. My husband and I have a farm, and things were going to be pretty tight until October. While I'm certainly glad to have won $40k... My numbers were 3,9,16,34,39 Mega Ball 10... the winning numbers were 3,9,11,34,39 Mega ball 10. My cookie had a string of 6 numbers and I decided to pull 10 out for the mega ball because i've always had the intuition that I would one day win the Mega Millions with a mega ball of 10. It's tough to come that close to being a multi millionaire lol
 
Wow, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing it with us. We support our local farm stand as often as possible.

CONGRATS ON A BIG WIN. WHILE AT THE CASINO SATURDAY OUR SERVER CONGRATULATADED ME ON WINNING $800. tHEN SHE SAID HER SISTER WON 4 YEARS AGO THE LOTTERY OF $400 A WEEK FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. sHE TOOK THE LUMP SUM OF $400,000 AND BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE AND CAR
 
Wow that is incredible. I've always wondered how frustrated I'd be if I were 1 number away like you were. It must be agonizing, but at the same time you're $40K richer which is amazing. I matched 4 of 6 numbers in NY Lotto at the beginning of the summer. I thought I was in for a payday.... then I was handed $25 :D

That is an awesome win! Big Congrats and thanks for sharing! I always advise people to pay the extra dollar for the multiplier as it pays off. In this case, it brought you an extra $30,000. Not bad for $1.00 more!
 
Thanks to everyone for the congratulatory messages. A detail that I didn't share was the fact that when I entered that night I was at a friends house whom I had been friends with since we were 7. His wife had just left him and their two children that just turned 4 and 6. He is also a farmer and let his crops go this summer and got himself into financial trouble. We made a pact that night that if either of us won we would give each other 10% of our after tax earnings. He recently got an eviction notice... Today I showed up with the money which turned out to be almost enough to pay his back rent. Then my husband emptied his wallet... I'm always barely scraping by it seems. I've never been in a position to help a friend in need--and nothing has ever felt better.

Oh and another funny detail... I played Friday...but I didn't sign into my app to check until Monday morning and when I did it was honestly to play the free spin to win entries game. I didn't even really think about the fact that I'd won Friday because any time I do I usually get a message in my email saying "Your winnings have been delivered to your account." So when I received no such message, I assumed I didn't win anything. Well... Sunday night I went to sleep in the guest room because I couldn't tell who was snoring louder, my husband or my mastiff... So I went into the guest bedroom. As is often the case I woke up super early with a migraine and went to take something. When I got back into bed I signed into my account and a pop up came up saying that I'd won $40,000. I don't think I processed it before running into our bedroom to wake up my husband to say I'd won $40,000 in the mega millions... I showed it to him and he said something like "Wow, cool..." and I can't even tell you the rest I just remember it being uneventful because he was tired lol so I went back to my room. Five minutes later he burst into my room and says "What did you say you won, another grill?" I said, "No $40,000 dollars in the lotto." He says "Oh that's what I thought you'd said...but I also thought I probably imagined you were saying that when you were really saying "another grill."
