Hello all, I've been sweeping for about 2 years now, and in the first 6 months I've had solid winnings. Nothing huge, but definitely something nice once a month and many smaller wins in between. However, in the 18 months since, the wins have been very few and far between, maybe 3-4 in total...

They already asked for details for the 1099... most companies know they have to file over $600

I wouldn't fret if that was my income :) in NY you need to add state and even local taxes, which can be almost 10%

Thank you all for your feedback - I guess the main takeaway is to read the rules carefully and only sign up for Sweepstakes with prizes that are worth the tax amount (for me).

To my understanding it's taxed as normal income, so the tax amount is in accordance with your highest bracket.

Hello all, I was just notified that I won a $3,600 travel package to Indianapolis Race Track, however since it has no cash element I will have to pay the taxes out of pocket, which would be around $1,500. Hence, I had to decline. Any ideas on how to deal with it?

That's good to know. I feel a bit cheated though, because I've been paying for entries and apparently my measly 500 entries which cost me $50 is competing with millions of free entries. There has to be a catch here somewhere...
