I won a grocery store gift card from a local tv station. I did not notice in the rules that I had to pick up the gift card in person at the station. I received the winning notification yesterday ($150 gift card) but since my husband is in failing health, I don't travel any more than thirty minutes away from home. I'm sure someone else will be glad I forfeited!

Since it is a local contest, I would at least call the station and talk to someone in marketing. They might be willing to make an exception because of your circumstances.

They said in the email that the gift cards would not be mailed. Fair enough -- it was in their rules, I just overlooked it. I enter too many of their contests and have gotten lazy about reading their rules. She did express understanding about my husband's health.

I didn't request an exception to be made. I felt that it was on me to not have read the rules more carefully. And it makes me happy to know someone else is getting a prize that they wouldn't have gotten. Maybe they need it more than I do.
