Cash Alternatives

A few years ago I won a 3-day trip to New York City (I live in California). As it turned out I wasn't able to take the trip before the "must be taken by" date, so when the person from the judging agency called and told me I won, I asked if they offered a cash alternative instead (there was no mention of a cash alternative in the rules). She said, "Yes, actually, we do. You can take $2000 instead if you'd like". I told her I would like, and they sent me a check for $2000. So I would suggest that even if there is no mention of a cash alternative to a particular prize in the rules, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't offer one; so if you're notified that you've won a trip, a guitar, some kind of big-ticket item, etc., and if the rules don't specifically say "No cash alternative", ask about it. Can't hurt.

ty for the heads up brianvn2!

For those that give a trip as the GP but I'd like to win a lower tier price [cash/gc's/electronics/etc] I always use keywords in the rules to see if they offer [I use LIEU in search] or if they say NO cash alternative before deciding if I should enter a specific promo.

My faves are those that only give [1] entry for the GP, and you enter daily for the IW/DP/lower tier prizes - even better if you have to Share/refer to get additional GP entries because then I can just avoid obtaining extra GP entries & while I know it only takes 1 entry to win, I figure I lessen my odds enough that I don't "waste" a prize JIC I am selected.

I also look for [Second Chance] in search along with [un-awarded & re-awarded] to make sure.
