Grrr!!! :cussing: that Liz Clairborne IWG and sweep! When you register, there is a box that is checked for a subscription to Glamour magazine that you have to uncheck to not get it. I didn't catch it until after I hit submit. It now comes up unchecked when you register, but the first day or two of the sweep it was checked.

Yesterday I got a bill in the mail for the magazine. At least they sent the bill first. There was a 1-800 number on the back that I called to cancel. I was polite (it wasn't the CS operator's fault).

However I did ask to pass a message on to the higher ups, I said: "Please stop doing these sneaky techniques to trick people into subscriptions, it does not cause me, or any of the others caught this way to think very favorably of your magazine."

I really wanted to tell them to insert their magazine "somewhere" sideways, and repeat the procedure until they had a biziilion papercuts, but I figured that wouldn't do any good. :cussing:

I got a bill today from them as well. I am usually very careful about making sure everything is unchecked. I was wondering what sweep that this was from. Where they very helpful and cancel it for you? I also got a subscription from Cosmo but they sent the mag first I called and let them know I did not order on purpose. They cancelled the mag. sub. and let me keep the first mag. It is very annoying though for them to try and trick you into paying for the sub.

I hate that. I get in such a hurry to move on to the next sweep I dont always pay attention. I have gotten bills from mags I have never even heard of. I just write cancel on the bill and send it back. They are very, very sneaky. I need to start checking comments more. alot of the time people will put in there "filled mag supscription for me", or be careful. something like that. Im happy you got it taken care of.

Thanks, celticbikerbabe, I fell for that one too. Instead of calling, I just wrote CANCEL on the bill and sent it back. How annoying for us, and a shame for everyone involved to waste the time and resources on this when an obvious "no" checkbox would have been a simple thing to add.

Yes, there was no problem in getting the subscription canceled, at least that I know of, only time will tell for sure! It was a bit difficult to figure out what option to choose when I was trying to go through their automated system though. I hate those systems! Press 1 for this, 2 for that, 3 if you wish you could choke us through the phone - LOL!!

I strongly encourage anyone who has this happen to ask to leave a message for the bigwigs like I did, if we all do, maybe it might make an impression. I won't hold my breath though! :)

Me too - I was wondering where this came from!!! :cussing: :nono:

yep...received my first issue of glamour yesterday...i got hooked in to...i guess when i get my bill i will write cancel...very annoying!......but this isn't the first time for me either!

i got the same thing but ignored the bill. two weeks later i got an email apologizing for the bill and explaining that it was sent because of a tech glitch.

I got one of those too over a month ago, as well as an issue of Glamour, but I also got an e-mail telling me that it was a tech glitch from the sweepstakes I entered and not to pay the bill. I haven't gotten one this month, so guess assuming the problem is taken care of??

Yes, the Glamour magazine subscription was caused by a glitch. However, I don't view boxes being checked or unchecked being sneaky, etc. It's everyone's responsibility to make sure their form is filled out correctly before submitting it.

yeah,i get in a rush doing my sweeps  got a fitness magazine yesterday  ..i just sent the bill back with cancel written on it ...i usually have no problems doing that

Men's Health is another one that does that. And I DO find it sneaky, if anything there should be a yes and a no check box and NEITHER of them should be checked, this way when you hit submit, it has to tell you that you need to check yes or no. But I DO NOT, under any circumstances, believe that it should assume yes and just automatically check that box for you. That is BAD business, and most people, after having been burnt like that, will not again do ANY type of business with them. That, in my opinion, is just shooting yourself in the foot. Not all magazines do that, so I choose only to do business with the stand-up companies who do not try to get subscriptions by sneaking it past you in the hopes that you won't see it.

It wouldn't make any sense for it to be sneaky, because they would be losing money by sending out unwanted magazines just to be cancelled. That would make no sense whatsoever. It's just the way they set it up. The person setting up the form is just an employee who has no interest in the company sending out unwanted subscriptions or to increase its revenue. Technically, they're not getting new subscription by doing that anyway. So, it wouldn't be in their best interest to be sneaky. Just make sure your form is filled out correctly before clicking on submit.
