Roboform thread

I did all these things, downgrading multiple times to 6, upgrading to the 7 desktop only, and now it's functioning like nagware. For every passcard it has to fill there is an upgrade message.

I'm glad you got yours working but the truth is they want more money. And they want it right now. You can check their FB wall where I questioned them about this. They don't deny it.

I can't find a Roboform Facebook page other than what other people started.

If you are still getting the message after clicking on each passcard, you have not reactivated Pro. I had the very same thing up until yesterday, because my computer had to be recovered.

They are not looking for more money. You're just not getting signed into the activation correctly. Give them the benefit of the doubt and find out what is going on first.

I did this, and they got back to me within 24 hours and said to click on my Roboform icon, then click on "Help", and then on "Activate Roboform Pro". I had to do it that way in order for it to reactivate.

Yeah, just did that again, here is the message:

"Dear Sweepyhead,

We located you in the RoboForm Pro users database.
You can now proceed with activation of RoboForm Pro.

Note: You currently have RoboForm 7 installed, it does not accept v6 licenses.
To activate your v6 license please install version 6 of RoboForm from this link. Once completed, please return to activate.

If you would like to continue using RoboForm 7, please upgrade your license. During the upgrade process, you will then be able to activate."

You are seeing one thing, I am seeing another. I think they'll catch up to your license pretty soon, or maybe will get on your case for an update when they update 7 and you have to install that.

First, you have to reinstall Version 6, then you reactivate. Once it tells you that Roboform Pro is activated, it will eventually ask you if you want to upgrade to Version 7. Only then can you upgrade to Version 7. It does not cost anything if you already have a Pro license from their previous version(s).

Since the licenses are different, you can only upgrade from the activated Version 6, and I could not reactivate by going to Roboform. com. I had to do it like they told me to through my toolbar Roboform icon.

This was my correspondence with them through opening a ticket.

I had a problem with corruption on my computer, and a technician ended up having to reinstall and reset everything on my computer. That means that all programs need to be reinstalled and updated. When I went to reactivate my Roboform Pro back on my computer, I keep getting "activation count exceeded". So, I can't activate it even though it is paid for for this computer. Can you please help me in getting this reactivated.

Thank you for your message.
Please activate Roboform Pro.

You got a new license key from them that was probably valid for RB 7. If you were upgrading by yourself from 6, you would probably see what I'm seeing. Or maybe your trial period is still valid for the time being. If so, they're gonna catch up to you soon and demand payment.

No matter how many times I redo this I keep getting the nagware message. I could send you the emails I got from them, it's not like I'm imagining this.

I didn't get a new license key. It was a reference to my license already on file that I've had for years. If I were there, I could do it very easily for you now that I know what I'm doing. They are not looking for more money, and I will not be paying for anything down the road.

I was upgrading from Version 6 and did see all the same messages you said you got. I just finally understood how to finally fix the problem with a little help from the Roboform tech also. I don't know how else to explain it through the computer. It's easier hands on. First and foremost, to fix the problem, you cannot have Version 7 on your computer. You can only have Version 6 installed. Eventually, you will be offered to upgrade to Version 7 for free.

Okay, I can't get past what you did and what I am seeing here with my own eyes and the emails they sent me politely saying I have to cough up money for Robo from now on. And the responses to me from Roboform on Facebook:

"You have the option to stay with Version 6 if it suits you well. Also, there is an upgrade discount for current users. Another option would be to participate in the contests we will be holding over the next two weeks to have a chance to win a free license. Again, apologies for the inconvenience."

Somebody else has to chime in about this and validate what I'm saying. They offered to give me the first year free, but after that you gotta cough up $29.95 every year. Go read their FAQ: http://www.roboform.com/support/faq/roboform-v7

It sounds to me like they don't already know that you purchased Roboform Pro already. If Version 6 is activated okay, then just wait until Version 7 is offered to you. It pops up automatically for upgrading to the newest version.

It's also a good idea to keep your license number somewhere in case you need to use it as reference of your purchase.

No, that isn't it. I've been using it for years and they broke their promise to provide free upgrades. It's as simple as that.

I think there's just a problem somewhere with your account, computer, or something.

If they were trying to charge for upgrades, then I would have gotten charged also.

I've been using Roboform for 12 years now, and whenever there ever is a new upgrade, I automatically get a popup from Roboform on my task/tool bar asking me if I want to install it which is exactly how I upgraded to Version 7. You can't upgrade to Version 7 through their site since it's a different license. You have to wait until your own Roboform program offers the upgrade.

There are posts corroborating what I'm saying at The Other-Sweepstakes Place we know of. You may be using your trial period at the moment, but they're gonna catch up with you in a few weeks and demand you pay for 7. Complain about it and you'll get a free year, or use the link in my post above for the free 1 year access.

Well, I never put any stock into what anyone over there ever said anyway!

If it makes you feel any better, there is nothing special about Version 7 anyway. It looks a little different cosmetically, and I have no use for the extra features anyways. So, it's really a moot anyway.

...and if you look at what it offers, there's nothing useful there for most of us unless something like someone who works on a MAC which Roboform didn't support before.

•New features: Synchronization, Applications, Better User Interface
•New browsers supported: Chrome, Safari, Firefox 4.
•New OSes supported: MacOS, Linux.
•New mobile devices: iPhone (available now), Android (coming soon).

I like the batch login and use it every day. For the moment I am taking the free year offer and will look at alternatives to Robo. There are others around. $30 a year is a lot for a teeny bit of web space when you can get that free elsewhere.

I was reading about this at CNET and people were complaining about their change of terms so it isn't just me.

It doesn't work well on a Mac, and just fills in logins. Still in beta I think. I use a Mini with Boot Camp to run XP with Robo.

Try opening multiple tabs or windows and going up and down them clicking on each passcard. It's a lot quicker, and you don't need Version 7 to do that.

I posted this in the other robo thread in Dec:

FYI - the latest update •Official Current version of RoboForm is 7.1.0 has a separate d/ld for FF RoboForm for Firefox v1.1.1
Pure Firefox extension that does not require the regular RoboForm installer. Requires RoboForm Online.

Which is NOT free :nono:

JUST updating IE disabled the old Firefox extension!!! :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Then my laptop died, and when I emailed them for my acct info, they sent the link for the 6 version, and because of this, I know not to check for updates.

Seems to me they will do like microsoft - stop providing service for older versions. If they do, I won't be happy either - I took the plunge after using the free version for about 1 1/2 years, BECAUSE it was supposed to be $30 for life.

I got rid of Version 7 and went back to Version 6 a few hours ago. As far as sweeping and saving passcards, it was more of a headache than it was worth. Just one of the annoying problems is that you are given the choice of saving as "Bookmark" or "Login". Login would be for passcards. Next thing I know it's switched over to the bookmark choice and in a different list. There were other things I didn't like about it. It was starting to give me a headache! I find Version 6 much simpler and easier to use for sweeping. I think Version 7 is getting into that professional and technical area that is just overkill for sweeping.

I just initiated the free Robo 1 year update, waiting for my activation and can't do anything much until they take care of it. I am looking into LastPass, an online alternative that has gotten a lot of positive press.

Dark, they are withdrawing their support for version 6, so if you keep upgrading Firefox it's eventually not gonna work. This obsolescence is part of their plan.

People are pissed all over about this move, basically voiding their earlier service agreement to millions of customers. Some people are enraged because they made a full priced purchase in 2010, finding they have to pay again and again and again.

They claim Robo is compatible across all platforms, so you're paying for multiple sync and access. No, not quite. The Mac version is in buggy alpha stage (I am a tester) and doesn't have many features at all.

I think they have mishandled this whole matter, and won't be surprised if the company gets bought out by Symantec or whatever.
