Is Your Pet Food Harmful?

I like to share with you an wonderful article on eHow which helps you determine if the pet food you use is harmful or potential harmful for your pet. What surprised me the most is that most of the pet food that Vet's sell and recommend is totally BAD BAD BAD! This article lists ingredients to look for that is considered the best to the worse.

How to Know What is the Best Food for your Cat or Dog?

I cried hard realizing that the cheap food I fed to my dear Shiloh may have contributed to his sudden death. All the signs were there. Oh great....I am crying again. I am heartbroken and vow never to compromise my pet's health...even now when I am unemployed and financial struggling (hopefully a nice win will come along), I can't seem to downgrade my pets food. Now I am educated (my pets eat better than me now), I do not want other pet parents who love their pets so dearly to go through what I did and become more educated.

A good way to look at it...would you feed your child fast food meals every day? That is what cheap pet food is...fast food and we know what happens to our bodies when we feed it nothing but junk food...if not, I highly recommend the documentary "Super Size Me". Thing is, that was just 30 days...for our pet's, it is everyday for years.

I pray that this helps a lot of you loving pet parents and please, educate your friends and family too! :) Mary Beth

I had cats most of my life, and they were fed the cheapest cat food on the shelf; and they all lived past the age of 17! :headbang:

I am glad and hope that the any current or future furbabies are just as fortunate and blessed.

We have two new little ones. They're so cute when they're little, and they were runts; so, they probably won't get too big.

Awww...I have a little one that was a runt...she is my "baby face" kitty...she is 5 years old and still looks like a kitten. Anyways, in my experience with petite kittens (I foster cats for years for pet rescue group and people call me the Cat Guru), I give them a glob of Nutrical which is a paste that they lick off your fingers. Gives them extra needed nutrients and helps their growth. They usually love the taste too. Here is the link...

Quibble about the article...Garlic and garlic oil both can cause fatal anemia in susceptible cats so I would not put them on my top "best ingredients list" :error:
At least not for cats, anyways.

If you only knew the half of it. I use to work security at Gwaltney meats, every part of the pig that we don't use is used for pet food. To be truthful the only part that didn't leave in packages was the dung they left on the floor.

Good article, thanks for posting it. DH and I both work with animals so we read the ingredients in our dogs food.

I have to agree with you on this. Garlic can be toxic to both cats and dogs. I'm really surprised to see it on the Best List.
