Some of the pictures from the day after the storm. These are before the trees really started falling ~ that was that night. I wish I would have taken more pictures after that, but we were dealing with all the other mess by then.

Boy, that brings back memories. Just add three to four feet more of snow. I wonder if I have any pictures laying around somewhere! :scratch: If I don't, it's probably because the ex-jerk didn't give me copies! :cussing:
 
I know its destructive but it sure is pretty. :whistle: I hate the sound they make when they start breaking and failing.. ugh its awful.
 
It was so pretty in some ways, but I hope I never see it again! The farmer's almanac predicted it to the day though is what I have been told...someone said that it is also predicting another one for us ~ I hope not. We won't have a tree standing around here!

I know that sound from Katrina. It is scarey especially when it's at night and you don't know where that tree might fall.
 
That sound is the worse thing about it all. I finally got to where I wouldn't even go outside anymore. The kids would grab a flashlight and run to the back door and I would just lay in the bed and pray. We have so many trees around us that how in the world we didn't end up with one through our house is a miracle!! And the ones over the car and van are the same way...all I can say is that prayer works!

We lost our electricity and phones on the same day and then on the next day we lost our water. Water was a lot worse. We can make it without lights, but even though we had bottled water and I had gathered up containers of water, it just didn't go very far. It is really hard to do without it! We pulled in Nashville just plain stanky! It felt so good to get in a room with lights and water...and a tv! I don't think they even got a snowflake out of the storm ~ lol, and here we were packing about 6 inches of ice on the top of our van with half a tree embedded in it. We got a lot of stares that day. We would stop at a red light and ice would go slidding off of the back of the van in little sheets. Thank God, people were staying back from the wilderness van...

I so understand Ping! We had a a horrible ice storm a few months ago and I have never been so scared. All night long it sounded like trees were exploding. Trees were coming down behind the house and the foundation would shake. We live on a mountain and fortunately all our trees are not within "house" range. My back yard was covered and the road that runs next to my property wasn't passable (2nd picture). We lost power for 3 days and neighbors around us were out for up to 5, luckily we had a generator and had purchased gas to prepare for it. The funny thing for us, 2 miles in either direction didn't have nearly as much damage as we did. People I work with couldn't understand what I was saying when I called and said I couldn't even get out of my driveway. We all laugh about living on a mountain and having completely different weather patterns than people down the road. :scratch: So glad your safe and spring is almost here!

Our whole area was like this. We drove into the next county over and they were just like that also. So my whole area understood what we were going through and still does. Jimmie is outside today on a ladder in the tree cutting branches like an idiot...and you can hear other chainsaws in the background. It is like mood music here anymore and has been for weeks.

How long did you go without power?
 
:wave: Nice photos ping! The ice makes the landscape look really pretty, which sort of belies the danger of so much ice. I'm glad you made it through the worst of it unscathed.

That's the same day my previous residence (Milford, PA) got hit again. I'm glad I didn't have to go through that again!
 
Chainsaws are still background music here. . . I got to thinking about the time frame and ours was before Christmas because a house down the road had a tree detroy a chimney and Little Man was worried aobut how Santa was going to visit their house like that. We were without power for 3 days. The generator kept our basement going for us. . . TV, XBox, DVD's, heat. . . no water (felt so stinky by the time power was back!) and our house uses well water so potty breaks were interesting. We still have to get up onto the back area of our property to get branches cleared out and cleaned up. . . just waiting for warmer weather I guess! We also still have crews taking care of taking down trees on properties in my area. Out neighbor had a tree split down the middle but not fall apart. . .it has a huge band on it right now waiting until a crew can get to it to take it down safely, such a shame, it was a beautiful old maple that provided their only privacy from the street. It still is weird to look across the street and see the tops of trees missing.
 
:sunny: The pics are beautiful in an eerie sort of way. Sure don't miss that part of living in Michigan. My last winter there I had over a foot of ice on my roof. Ice storms are just so treacherous.
 
We lacked 1 day being without electricity for 2 weeks ~ which was a lot better than the 4-6 weeks that they originally told us, but there are some people still without power here! Last count I heard was 12,000 in this area, but that was last Thursday so I am sure it is down some from then.

This was up near town. I really like her pictures because of all of the trees and the time of day that she took them. They had power back within a week I believe because they were so close to town.

Caitlyn's boyfriend, Tray, had his power off for almost two weeks, but had his water off for over three! I would have died. They ended up buying a really nice generator to run their house off of. At least they could watch tv and get on the internet...they were connected a lot sooner than I was...
 
Can't see her pictures but I would immagine they are pretty bad. I am just still so irritated that we are not hearing about this in the MSM. We aren't hearing about Oklahoma either.
 
She might have her's set to friends only...sorry! I didn't check.

I have heard theories on why we aren't hearing things, but I don't know if they are true or not. It is just rumblings from people that are upset right now, but sometime urban legends are based in truth...
