Hello churchy,
I haven't eaten at the Little Aussie's Bakery - but the bakery isn't down by the Riverwalk/downtown, or even within walking distance of the convention site. It's nearby Brackenridge Park and Zoo, I think.
I'm truly sorry that you haven't gotten a roommate, or two, yet. I intend to go to the convention, but I don't know if I will stay at a hotel/motel or drive between Austin and San Antonio yet. If I do stay at a hotel, my "roomie" will be my husband. Sorry.

When you are on a special diet you will drive or take a taxi to get what you want. Just wondering how GF they are and if they are worth it because some GF bread is so horrid. I googled it to make sure it was not too far. 3 miles and yes it is near Breckinridge Park.
It is a bit of a drive from Austin to San Antonio and one night is supposed to be late. This convention is not as organized as the one in Moline it seems. i still have not seen anything about outings at their site. In Moline they had a dinner cruise and casino trips.
I am sure something will work out and if not then who knows I may cancel the room and then skip the convention, rent a car and find a nice hotel in Ft worth/dallas where my connection for the plane is.

Hon, I'm sure tinymomo didn't plan on what happened. This trip seems to be more a burden than fun for you. Have you thought about maybe cancelling for this year, and then planning for next year instead? That way, you would have plenty of time to save money, make early reservations, find roommates if needed, and plan your outings. I'm truly sorry to see you so upset and hurt. My son was diagnosed with severe ADD when he was young, and we struggled through it. He is doing much better, but it still can be a burden, so I understand where you are.

Just a heads up for saving money. You can get 50% off a hotel's rack rate if you are a Entertainment.com member. We only book our rooms through them. For saving money on eating out, check Restaurant.com for possible local restaurants to purchase certificates for. If you check under printable/online coupons section in the Bargains section of the forum, you will find a code for 70% off on top of that; i.e., you can get a $25.00 certificate for $3.00. Just read over the restrictions/guidelines for each.
I don't think you understand. Oldest son- getting married. The military gave him 4 days-and I am not going to miss that. it is not all about you. He surprised the hell out of me when he called Sunday and they said they decided to marry before he deploys to Afghanistan. Fighting for your freedom too, I might add.

The airline ticket is nonrefundable. I must use it, find a fare deep discounted like the one I got or pay $135 to $500 to change one date. i am not going to waste that money on the airline so I am going.
I paid for the convention so there is no turning back.
It is nobody's fault that the convention was set on the Labour Day weekend. The water park, SeaWorld and FiestaTexas went into off season the week before Labour Day which means convention goers would only have Firday night, Saturday night and Sunday if they stayed one extra day. At the San Diego convention there was trips to the casinos and people could car pool to SeaWorld and other sites. At Moline there was a riverboat cruise with dinner included and casino trips. This convention has nothing planned that I can see. Not even a dinner cruise on Riverwalk for example.
I looked into rooms like Motel 6 and Super 8. It current room is $125 a night so I limited my search to cheap rooms. I would have to take a taxi or rent a car. The cheapest room because of the holiday is $39 each of the first two nights increased. That would cost about $250 or more and the cost of taxi would make it even more. Forget about renting a car. Because of my diet I cannot eat at most fast food restaurants. Some restaurants are not safe like pizzarias. Thus staying in the convention hotel gives me onsite restaurants and nearby restaurants that are safe. I can also take a water taxi or taxi to many safe restaurants. I can take my spare wheelchair and walk to the Alamo by setting and pushing then walking a bit. I may take the trolleys as there is a stop at the hotel.
This is not about me at all. :nono: Most people who know me well online can sense something is amiss. I hide or ignore things like mild claustrophobia, shutting down, meltdowns, avoidance of new things unless I am certain things are well, and ADD and SID. I am on a board and am just realizing that how bad my quirks are and how many little ones I have. I was not given one big quirk or health problem, nope nope. I have many little things wrong with me that add up. It is hard for me to trust people and I trusted a stranger. It is hard for to let go old hurts but I let go of BAR's site.

I hope you can make it and have a great time while you are there. I always say things have a way of working out one way or the other.
I can't wait to hear how this convention goes. I have heard so much about the last couple so I bet this one will also be a doozie.I hope all SA folks win a lot of stuff.

It should turn out fine. Conventions are about people. You get social drinkers and abstainers but rarely boozing drunks. Most people are descent people but some complain too much, some are too bossy, some too shy, and some are stinkers. It is like any other group of people. There is a tendency to help each other out, comraderie, joy of life, shared interests, and they tend to be working class people who have a hobby that requires some ingenuity, hard work and patience. They tend to not be rabblerouser or wild destructive people. I met so many people at conventions and I found some angels who watched over me and people who really helped me.
I remember in Moline how they brought me ice cream because of my celiac. Very nice people in San Diego and Moline. :sunny:

I do not go inside BAR's site but did google and find the convention thread over there. I find it ironic that someone looses their room the realizes they are going to a wedding never once posts that they may not go or cannot go. I believe that this is like the prizes that Ken had to fork over when she did not cough up the prizes for her contest. Every can see my status on my trip right here. On three other sites I talked about and have kept people up today. I am asking administration to go into BAR's site for research and to see if I am right. I find it very odd that the 12 free SeaWorld tickets dissappeared. I find it odd that she is not at BAR's site crying about not going then rejoicing about the wedding.

I am saying that on three sites and SA I have talked about my trip. When something happens I talk about it like an update. Recently I posted that everything but the hotel is covered. I would have to save up enough for ground transportation and food for the first couple of days plus the raffle stuff so that would be covered. I find it weird that someone would not post on their favourite site that they are not going to the convention.
I was told that she had 12 free tickets to SeaWorld and she would take me and others there for free. I could in theory pay for a ticket to local parks but it is not a biggie as I have SeaWorld in San Diego, 3 major theme parks with roller coasters and several water parks so no biggie on not going.
BAR is the initials of the narcissistic tongue bathing owner of Other Lesser Site. Me being nice and will not sing "In the Ghetto".
