Books are such a signifigant part of the sweepstakes world that they have earned their own category. There are movie tie-in books, childrens books, cookbooks, Christian books, novel and how-to books, all waiting to be won. Romance books alone could keep a sweeper busy with all those entry forms. All books are good – especially free ones.
Some book sweepstakes are offered by the author, or a group of authors. Some sites, like GoodReads, give away all kinds of books from both new and established authors. I recently put in a GoodReads entry for Rob Sheffield's “Talking to Girls About Duran Duran”…but I couldn't wait to see if I won, so I borrowed a copy from the library. And I loved it. If certain songs bring back memorable moments from your past and you immediately drop back into the moment, this is a highly recommended read. If your personal moments include an 80's soundtrack, this is a mandatory read.
I confess I also enjoy romance books. It's true. There are always so many sweepstakes in this category that it can be tough deciding which ones to enter. All of them? Favorite authors? Paranormal romance? Teens? Regencies? Moderns? There's a lot to choose from. I did recently win the latest paperback from Leanne Banks. The author was kind enough to autograph it too, which was a nice touch.
One of the romance book sites, WriterSpace, has periodic chat nights where you can log into a group forum and chat with a featured author. I have visited a few of these chats and they've always been fun. They're in real time, and sometimes they have impromptu giveaways and sweepstakes.
My daughter entered me in a Beacon Hill Publishing contest for Mother’s Day. I won a computer tote case, a coffee mug, a book mark, two nice pens and my choice of three of their Christian books. I received the price package the day after I emailed them my book choices. Talk about great service for a contest! My daughter had to write a brief email about why I was the best mom…and hers was the one chosen. It was a nice surprize!
