I hope I'll be saying that next fall! A “sweep” in baseball means that one team won all the games in a particular series. A baseball sweepstakes means that there are baseball prizes to be won.
Major League Baseball (MLB) is running many different sweepstakes for the various teams in the league. In the regular season, these giveaways are usually for game tickets and extra goodies. MLB and Scotts are co-sponsoring a bunch of sweepstakes that includes four game tickets, a chance to get on the field and/or meet a baseball player, and baseball gear to take home with you. Later in the season, we're likely to see prizes for the All-Stars, play-offs, and World Series.
Hopefully the Phillies will be there. If you're from another town, yes, the rumors about Philadelphia fans are true. We love our teams. We love it when they win. We also love coaching our players with helpful suggestions if they aren't playing their best. It's just because we love them. Really. However, we're not so keen on teams from other cities. The baseball games that are the most fun are the ones against the New York Mets (boo!). Our two cities are close enough that fans for both teams show up, which makes the games especially lively.
If you wear another team's jersey to a Phillies game, you can expect a warm response from the locals. But I'd wear a Mets jersey to a Phillies game ten times over before I'd wear a Dallas Cowboys jersey to an Eagles game. (We REALLY don't like them). But that's another story. For now, I'm just hoping to win the Phillies tickets sweepstakes.
I got to win, because it is Friday the 13th, my son and myself have never been
to a professional game of any kind.
Let’s Go PHILLIES!
