Sweepstakes Special: A Little Thanksgiving History

Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day became an annual tradition in 1863. It was during the Civil War when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it as a national day and religious observance where people give thanks to God for all His blessings. It was one of the most important holidays in the country, next to Christmas Day and the New Year. For most schools and colleges, Thanksgiving is a four-day or five-day weekend while companies often make the day after Thanksgiving a paid holiday.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is called Black Saturday, famous for being the busiest day in all stores nationwide. Sales are everywhere and so are shoppers running after them. Thanksgiving is the perfect time for family, friends and yourself!

Here’s to another year of thanking God for the blessing He has given us. Cheers to everyone and enjoy the holiday!
