you know what annoys me?

when contest sponsors change the rules of the sweeps MID sweeps. this has happened to me a few times now. once was a single entry at first, THEN they emailed and said in order to be considered as a finalist you had to get people to vote on your name to be in the actual drawing (I am not doing this again.)

I was in a Pinterest content and I REALLY think I had a good chance at winning, only to find out the rules have been changed to open the contest up to more entrants (its easier to enter now, takes less time and creativity) after I have really given the effort and been creative.

This seems unfair to me to change the rules like this, I am glad it doesn't happen more often, but when it does it makes me hestitant to enter from the sponsor again.

My feeling is that a reputable sponsor would not change the rules mid stream. I can only guess that rules were changed to get more people to enter for more exposure on their end. Wishing you the best of luck!

Are they actually changing the rules or does a phase end, and they have new rules for the next phase that are a complete surprise? I've seen the latter a few times, and for the former, it was usually to extend the dates.

I agree.

If you think reputable companies do not change the rules....think again. They do and have.
i.e. I believe it was last year that International Delight ran a sweep on facebook. They were giving away (2) 1/2 gallons of their new iced coffee and a cup. I won, but the notification said only (1) 1/2 gallon. I went back and read the rules and compared them to the archived rules I had. Sure enough they changed the prize. They actually sent the half gallon (not a coupon). The box was large enough to fit the (2) half gallons and the cup.
I was a big fan of ID.
I can understand when certain things take place and they need to change the rules or end a sweep early. However the value of the prize should stay the same (even if they have to substitute a prize). Changing the value of prizes after folks have read the rules and entered is ethically wrong in my eyes.
I also don't think the entry instructions should be changed. We have to follow their rules when we enter, so I feel they need to be following guidelines as well. Hmmm something to really think about.

I agree jns! Amy yep actually changing rules not as phases. Around Christmas there was a pinterest content where the board with most repins was the winner. I CLEARLY had the most pins as they had all their entrants' boards posted in one place, but they said another person won because I my repins were all from one person (which wasn't true at all) - anywhoo I made stink about it and they gave me a "2nd place" prize.

There's a few that actionsportsnow had that were single entry drawings. They emailed the other week saying that the next steps was to get votes - i did that, but i just felt like too much. Then I found out the hotel the "winner" gets to stay at has roaches - praying I don't win that one LOL!!!

The other recent one is actually the one im trying to get followers for on the referral forum. it was supposed to be that each day the sponsor posted a theme on their fb page, and you had to repin and add ur own photo and caption and be creative - and go to their page every day to see next step. Yesterday they just changed to repin any 5 things from their site-, which is fine, im still participated but sucks for all the people who were really trying and checking each day up till now.

Anywhoo....its a minor gripe in my life...but I am a rules stickler, what can I say. While I'm complaining...it also drives me nuts when people skip line - like to the point I have to say something. Wherever we are!!! hahaha

allysonblake - Ah yes, Pinterest/vote sweeps are notorious for not following their own rules and/or changing them mid-stream.

FB too. Mostly I see date changes since I don't enter vote sweeps.
