Won & Lost a $500 prize all within an hour.

So!

I received a text this AM that I was a potential winner of a $500 New Belgium surf board. I signed the affidavit electronically and sent it back immediately. Received a phone call an hour later from a lady stating that since I work at a restaurant that sells alcohol, I was DQ'd. I guess it's a thing where since they're an alcohol provider, it looks like favortism and like their trying to get us to serve their brand.

She said that if I had a second job or was a student, I could put that instead on the affidavit and send it back, but I just have the one job. Sigh. Oh well! She's going to send me a t-shirt instead since she feels bad.

That's what happens when I don't read the rules!! I did have another text a while later stating I won a coozie from Sam Adams, so hey there's that! lol!!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!!

oh no that stinks! I'm sorry for that. I'm surprised they consider you job a distributorship as that usually means something very specific that doesn't include restaurants and grocery stores etc. My niece works at a distributor and there are quite a few i can't enter because of this. Hopefully your luck will swing back two fold on an ever better prize!

so sad, but by the looks of your list you've been doing pretty good this year

Thanks! Those are biggest wins of all time haha, I wish it were all in one year!! =) But yes, I was bummed but have been very lucky in the last few years so I'm not too bummed. Just reminding everyone to be sure to read the rules.

justiceserenity - which promo is this? I'm with stilettogirl - by their logic, the bookkeeper would be DQ'ed too!

This is in the rules: 1. ELIGIBILITY: The New Belgium Surfboard Giveaway (“Promotion”) is offered and open only to legal residents of California who are age 21 or older at time of entry. Void in all other states and where prohibited. Employees, officers and directors of New Belgium Brewing Company (“Sponsor”) and those entities involved in the preparation of materials and/or administration of this Promotion (collectively with Sponsor referred to herein as the “Promotion Entities”), suppliers, distributors, or retailers of alcohol-beverage products, and their immediate family members (spouse, siblings, children and parents) and those living in the same household as such individuals (whether or not related) are not eligible to enter.

I see it: retailers of alcohol-beverage products

But, how does that apply to you unless you are the Retailer???

OK I did a search & found:

Differences Between Wholesalers, Distributors and Retailers
Differences Between Wholesalers, Distributors and Retailers | Chron.com

But, I talked to hubby about it, and told him it was a Local - Callie only sweeps & he said "There's your answer - it's California" lol!

I remember alcohol sweeps/promos were not allowed - at all - in Callie years ago & they started allowing them w/certain restrictions, so maybe they choose to interpret differently?

Yeah it's all very strange. The rules state that relatives and those who live with retailers and all listed are also ineligible. Seems to me that that would be a very large % of people in California. I've also won many other prizes from companies that sell alcohol and never seen it before.

Just gonna avoid the New Belgium ones from now on. Oh well.

congrats on your win and sorry about the loss .....that seems a little nit picky but, your right the rules are the rules

Oh that makes a bit more sense now, still pretty strict. I always tell my hubby I try never to get too excited about a prize until i get it in my hot little hands because you just never know what may DQ you. Sometimes we interpret rules much differently than the sponsors.
