WON! BUT Request for Driver's License Photocopy, something new?

SheKnows notification of prize winning, but are requesting copy of Driver's License. Never before have I been asked for that. My concern is Identity theft. I e-mailed them asking what would be done with copy? Would they destroy/shred it, waiting for reply. I think "SheKnows" is reputable but would appreciate advice from fellow Sweeper's?

I have never won from them, but I do know a few SA members have and they have all had to send their license even for winning a book. :)

I've won several times and just send a copy with the number marked out.....all the other info is just common knowledge anyway.

Congrats! I won as a 2nd place runner up for a book. I did send a copy of my drivers license. I will just keep a list of sweepstakes companies I send my license to.

Thanks to katiesmom, rym2008 and beat1, for your input. beat1 you were right on... they responded to my e-mail question with....

"Thank you for your response! We use your ID to verify that you are over 18, a resident of the United States and not been using aliases to create additional accounts. If it would make you feel more comfortable you are free to black out your driver's license number.
Please let us know if you have any other questions and have a great day!"

So the answer is "BLACK OUT YOUR DRIVERS LICENCE NUMBER" on your photocopy !

Wonderful, safe, problem resolution for me, and GREAT advice to the next winner of SheKnows sweepstakes.

I recently won a set of omelette pans from cooking.com. This is a prize with an ARV of $60. They required me to send them a notarized affadavit, faxed and then mailed, along with a copy of a state-issued ID. I could understand if this was a prize worth over $600, but I have jumped through hoops to get this completed within the timeframe they set (1 week.)
