Won a Pinarello e-Gravel Bike

I got an email from Hearst last week saying I won a sweepstakes I entered back in Sept - Bicycling Presents a Pinerello Sweepstakes.

I won an $8000 ebike! It was a one time entry and one winner... I was so surprised, but I haven't decided if I'm gonna accept the prize due to the taxes.

First of all - congratulations!!!

Second, I'd do everything I could in the time they're allowing you do decide to find out if you can resell the bike to a retailer.
Use Google to find out which retailers are selling the bike and see if they would be willing to buy it from you, for example, for
$4000, if you guarantee you will ship it to them in the original, unopened packaging and you can prove you won it in a sweepstakes.
Then, obviously, not only will that cover your taxes but it will give you a hefty profit. While you might be able to resell it to an
individual, it's not as likely simply because of the cost, but that's still an avenue you could explore. Their margin on selling that bike
is probably high but it's certainly not 100%!

If your situation is such that you simply cannot afford the taxes due, then it's completely understandable you'd turn it down. But
if I were in your shoes and could afford it, I'd accept the prize in a heartbeat and then take my time to resell it. That is an incredibe high-end
bike and being electrically powered should appeal to high income people living in major cities, or anywhere else for the matter, the same people
who purchase the $2,400 Peloton exercise bike.

Back in 2009, when the economy had melted down, Cabela's inexplicably put a $400 fireplace screen on sale for $20, and I bought out
their stock for $299. I stored them in my basement for years and finally resold them to a local retailer for $1,000 cash. Easiest money I
ever made.

Best of luck no matter what you decide but man, I'd be burning up the phone line calling retailers to see if they'd like to make a deal. :D

p.s. If you don't want the hassle of doing that, you could always see if someone here wants the bike and arrange (if SA does this) to have
SA handle the details of selling the bike to them, for example for $2,000, and you'd make probably a 100% immediate profit and they
would get a bike probably out of their price range, or they could then try to resell the bike themselves. Heck, I'd do that! But more important
is for you to maximize your value from this so do everything you can to make hay on a great win!
 
I'm sure there is some local high-end bike shop that would buy this bike from you
if it is in the original packaging. Great win regardless.

Thanks so much for the advice! I have many bike shops in my area.
