Woman's World VIRUS

Hi Everyone:

I was entering a daily on Woman's World for Downey Bedding Sweep and a virus tried to invade my computer. Messages came up saying that 17 viruses had downloaded to my computer. It wanted me to click and run a program to "Remove Them"

Knew this was not right because I have Norton Antivirus and the message was not from them. I clicked into Norton and it had already removed them.

This is the 2nd time this has happened to me on Woman's World sweeps, though I enter them all the time. It also happened to me last December.

Just wanted everyone to be aware of this.

Have a great Holiday!

I read your warnings and I entered about 6 contests and on the last one, my anti-virus program detected viruses trying to attack my computer. This is serious, folks.

thanks for the info... i have not entered them in awhile due to my illness and surgery and I think I will wait a bit now as well. Did u contact them re: this??

I e-mailed Woman's Day alerting them to the problem and to this forum so they can see other people's statements.

I didn't try to enter that site but when I entered InTouchWeekly yesterday after not entering for about 2 wks. it happened there too. Fortunately I was spared but it did make my heart jump.

For the past two days, I have had problems entering sweeps, especially using the sweeps pop feature. It will go to "error page". I haven't been to Women's World, so I know I didn't pick up virus on that site. I coincidentally, had just updated to IE9, so I thought maybe the problem happened there. But looking back, I ran across 2 shady sites, where I got pop-ups. I'm sorry that I don't remember which ones they were. On one, it wanted to add something to my toolbar. On the other, it wanted me to lower my security settings. Anyhow, I contracted a virus somewhere. I also had my Bing browser wiped out. Thanks for posting about your problems, would like to know if anyone else is having problems.

I don't have the problem with either site. People have a tendency to believe a virus come from a particular site, because that's when they are hit with the virus; but most of the time the virus is not coming from the website. A techy person would be able to explain it better on how viruses and trojans actually enter a person's computer.

I, too, don't have the problems that others are mentioning in this post. We need to be careful who we blame for a virus unless we are absolutely sure where it came from. I have seen sweeps removed from SA because people said they were getting viruses or popups from them. I saved these removed sites and still enter their sweeps and haven't gotten a virus (haven't won either, but that's beside the point.) I too hate viruses and think those that unleash them are worthless scumbags.

Hi Everyone:

Thanks for responding. Out of 8 responses 2 others confirmed my thoughts, since it happened to them as well, in the same time frame. I spoke to more than one IT person and they agreed with me. Just so you know, I have only had 2 viruses try to invade and both happened after entering at Woman's World. I always enter more than one of their sweeps when I get to the site. I only shared this to make people aware, I emailed SA to let them know and another member contacted Woman's World, so hopefully they will address the issue.

Have a great Holiday Season!

Kristen I posted that I had the same thing happen to me but it was at InTouchWeekly's sweeps. I was wondering if Womans World was under the same umbrella as InTouchWeekly and maybe Life and Style and others. I am leery about entering those too. You can't be too safe.

fifi, the three you mentioned are all from Bauer publishing and from our end they do look like they are set up in the same way, don't they?

Thanks to everyone who has posted here and shared concerns. Even with a good anti-virus program and updates, I like having this information so I can make the choice whether to enter or put them aside for a while.

Yep - our comps are all configured differently with different levels of protection, and these cooties are set to engage when certain triggers are met,

I also had a virus attack, one I got a warning from Norton, and one it affected my emails, which was very scary. It wouldn't go to Outlook, and wouldn't let emails open. I ran a virus scan and it found 42 "risks", I have never seen more than 1 or 2 when the scan has run before. It was after a Woman's Day and another site, I can't remember which but it was a magazine site.

I have never been hit with a virus until today. I got the warnings that wanted me to buy protection and with in a few minutes it locked up my computer to the point I just gave up and reformatted. Lost everything but my pc is is like new again. I noticed it after entering on Woman's Day website not Woman's World. I have never had problems with them before. Oh well, off to recover all my passwords since I lost my roboform pro too.
