Winning Notice in SPAM folder?

I just started this a few months back, and as per advice I setup an e-mail address to use for sweeps. As I expected, I have started to get a fair amount of SPAM. In my g-mail account, it will try to "guess" what is SPAM and put it into a SPAM folder. At first I thought this was great, but I am concerned that it may think one of my "you have won" e-mails is SPAM. So I have started going through all of the SPAM to make sure I don't miss anything.

What do you guys do? Have you had a winning notice end up in SPAM?

I always look through my spam... I haven't received a winning email in there yet, but I do find things I want (such as the SA newsletter).

It really doesn't take me much time to do it... spam is easy to sort through just looking at the sender and subject line most times.

I just use my regular ISP address for sweeping and everything else. I don't really get any spam except for those foreign lottery, inheritance, etc., type emails. Most everything I get from sweepstaking is from required opt-ins that you must accept in order to enter which isn't spam. So, I don't see the need for a separate file. I have had some things put directly into my "Deleted Files" folder like swag buck codes, but I have seen people post finding prize notifications in their spam folder. So, it most certainly can happen.

I have a yahoo acct & decided that since I'm going to check the spam box anyhow, might as well send everything to my inbox so I'm not constantly checking both. Thankfully, I don't get much spam, (kow) :booty" :booty" :booty"

Thanks for your thoughts. Sounds like I may be getting more Spam than others. I will get about 100+ per day in addition to the "Thank You for Entering" e-mail. I must have entered a questionable sweep and got on a list being passed around. I guess that is why you setup an e-mail for sweeps. If it gets too bad, I can always change to a new one..

Souunds like a normal amount.:sunny: I have one account I've been using for sweeping since 1998, and I get 200-300 emails a day. Down from a high of 400 (less spam these days, guess its the economy). It becomes surprisingly easy to sort through it all with a little practice.

I'm just wondering what people are considering spam. I can't imagine how you can get that much unsolicited email.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but if I enter a 1X entry sweep many times it does not have an option to opt out of being contacted. I expect them to send me a newsletter or whatever but many times they also "share" my email with third parties and that is spam. I get nowhere near as many as others here have said but I do average about 20-30 per day.

Anytime you give out your email you run this risk whether you have opted out or not, so it is really not that hard to imagine some people (particularly those who have had their email address for a while) getting a load of spam.

Also, let's face it, some spam filters are better than others. Some let you set the level of filter that you want and some take everything from anyone not in your address book for spam and send it to a special folder or automatically delete it.

That is why many of us, including me, use a throw-away email address for sweeping. There are many sites out there (I won't mention any names, but I am sure you have seen them) who offer you pages and pages and pages of "special offers" and heaven forbid you miss unchecking one because you are now on the VIP list for tons of spam.

It's only considered spam if the sponsor did not inform the entrant anywhere that they would share your information with third parties. If it's stated in the rules or their privacy policy, then it's not spam; because you're agreeing to them sharing your information when you enter the sweepstakes.

That's why it's very important to read the rules and privacy policy. Sometimes, someone will be nice enough to post that information in the comments section of the posted sweepstakes.

I remember someone posting a site where they were entering a bunch of sweepstakes that weren't real. It was a phishing site with absolutely no information on the site. Something like that would generate unsolicited emails, because they're collecting information under false pretenses and selling it to third parties.

I remember a couple of years ago my niece won the Campbells contest (they give away great prizes for kids) and the winning notification email went into the junk folder. I don't use that email address anymore, now, i use an addy with just one folder. and i sift through.

usually, (not all the time) but a winning email will be in all "CAPS" in the subject line.

I get every single phisihing email for every bank in the US, all the paypal scam emails (multiple times). There is a lot of duplication.

The ones that get me are the contest that send you an e-mail that says "Congratulations" for entering. You know they say it that way just to get you to pause a little longer on their e-mail.
