Will they leave a message?

I have caller ID and never answer a call from an unknown number. So now I'm wondering.....if, by some chance, I win something and they call me, will they leave a message. Or, by not answering the phone will I not get my prize :cry:.

I came home from vacation and saw several blocked numbers on my Caller ID but no messages were left. The next day I got a call again from a blocked number but answered it and it was a sweepstakes company informing me of a cash win. So, in my case, no, they did not leave a message.
 
Some sweepstakes like "Valpak" state in their rules that they will make two attempts to call the winner, i.e. between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on a specified date, before moving on to the next runner up on the list. So, in cases like that, if you don't answer, you lose your prize.

I've had a several JA's/sponsors leave messages on our answering machine through the years.
 
Be sure to read the rules. Some will state in the official rules that they will NOT leave a message. So, if there's is a date specified that the winner will be contacted then mark it on your calender so if the phone rings that day you will be sure to answer.
 
If I may put in my two cents worth... here is what I do:

First sign up for the National Do Not Call registry at www.donotcall.gov (it takes about a month for it to go into effect)
This does not always keep unscrupulous companies from calling and it does not block charities or companies with whom you have a business relationship.

From then on answer your phone with a pad and pen ready. If it is someone who should not be calling, be friendly and get their name, company name... any info you can get. Then politely inform them that you are registered with the National Do Not Call registry and that you will be reporting them (you can report them at the same link as above). I found that this works wonders. I was receiving tons of calls until I did this to a couple of companies and now I get nearly none.
