Which prize do I want? A dilema.

A lot of times I see the prizes offered for a contest and I would rather win First or Second rather than the Grand Prize (usually trips..I have no need or time for trips).
Does anyone know if you are chosen as a grand prize winner can you opt for a lesser prize if you like it better?

I know it's silly, just wondering.

I don't think you can but it would not hurt to ask the sponsors. Never know, they might work with you or possibly offer cash options.

From all the posts that I have read through time regarding this situation, the answer is almost usually "no". I love trips, but I do occasionally win one of the other prizes that we have no use for. So, you either turn it down, sell it, or give it away.

The previous posters give good advice. In addition, I have never seen this issue addressed in any sweeps rules. Your question is good. Miki's advice is excellent--negotiate with the sponsors if offered the opportunity. Hope this helps.

Usually, you will see this or something similar to this in the rules:

"No substitution, transfers, or cash equivalent for prizes."
