Undue hardship with evidence usually will get you out of the grand prize. Some companies cannot or will not substitute. Do not tell them you were only entering to get a lesser prize.
Ask them:
1. Due to hardship can I get the Xbox instead. If they say no then continue to 2.
2. Is the top prize worth the taxes and other problems.
3. Ask them what would happen if you could not show up but your friend or friend showed up. Such as a trip for four but you did not show, just the three friends. If they say you must show, continue on in your quest, gigglesnort.
4. Will they allow you to fly to the event then crash in the hotel the entire time while your companions party on or do they expect you to do meet and greets or other publicity. Do you have to go to events? If they say yes you can crash in the hospital or hotel why your companions party on then you are a winner. Take a friend with you and ask them for some money for the trip. "Yo Joe you wanna go to another state, party with famous athletes and bring home trinkets? Only cost you $300."
5. If you still have to go and have to do publicity and attend the events you have to stop and think hard. You will pay taxes on the trip. You attend events to get the rest of the package. No x-box. At this point I would give up or I would go ahead with the trip and have them wheel a big fat sick person who is unhappy.
Be nice and hold on to your dreams but this is part of sweeping. You win a great prize but it does not fit, is on the wrong date, or will cost you more in taxes than you can afford. It is the risk you take as you hope when you enter that Uncle Dave wont get married during your trip, that you will be healthy then and that there are no hurricanes that happen during your trip. A friend got hit by a hurricane and at the same time won an expensive trip but they gave her cash. Another person won a trip and they could not go as the area they were going to was under a storm, bad one.
Good luck
