What is a "gas card"?

What is a "gas card"?

I get what it is from a particular station - like a "Chevron gas card" or a "Shell gas card". But what are these generic gas cards? I see that as a prize frequently, but I've never won one. Are they different from just a Visa or Mastercard or American Express gift/debit card? Can they really only be used to purchase gas?

Many times they send you a prepaid Mastercard with the sweeps name written on it. :)

I'll let you know. I won a $50.00 gas card last night on the Tony's Pizza Fuel Up instant win. But it says it won't be sent until after the end of the promotion. Hope I don't forget all about it. I'm still waiting on a $50.00 Crate and Barrel card from the AT&T Set Up Instant Win.
