What does it mean when a contest states prize ARV

I got an email saying I have been selected as Prize winner of the “Wii Fit Bundle Holiday” Sweepstakes from Shop.com ARV $300. I just spoke to a nice woman from Shop.com and she said that is does not come with the wii it is just the wii fit game and the board. I said that the rules stated the ARV is $300 and that wii fit game is $89. She said that the $300 is just the limit that she could spend. I don't want to sound ungrateful but thats a big difference. Maybe they'll throw in a few games. I always thought when it said ARV $300 that is really was $300.
 
ARV is just approximate retail value.

The Wii Fit bundle is made up of a collection of different Wii components. The Wii Fit bundle can be any combination of the following: Wii console, Wii remote and Nunchuk combo, Wii games, Wii Fit balance board, and Wii fit games CD.

wii fit bundle is just what I have posted above.. if it was the console also they probably would have stated wii fit and wii console. that would have taken it above the arv of 300.00 though... sorry its not excatly what you thought but its still a very nice prize and maybe you will win a wii to go with it. :laughing:

I hate to be the scrooge here but the wii bundle doesnt include the wii.. when it says wii fit game and wii fit balance board thats all it is.. the game and the board... not the console.

this is an example of what the listing would say.. imo..

good luck with whatever you decide to do.. I hope they do give you the wii im just saying I dont think they have too according to their rules.. wii fit bundle... they could in all honesty just send * Wii Fit with Balance Board

Don't pay any mind to the ARV. They're almost always over-inflated approximate retail values.

As long as you get the prize stated, you just need the fair market value (actual value, FMV) for reporting to the IRS as "Other Income".

I've gotten very few things worth what the ARV stated was especially on trips, and those didn't even come close.
