Received an e-mail saying I won and when I click claim my prize it appears that I have to purchase the trench coat at a reduced price. Is this correct.

Yes, I got this offer too ... it's only 20% which is almost nothing (even in a store you can find 75% off sales or outlet stores you can get 90 or 95% off) this is just a scam to get free advertising - but they don't realize that the people that see this contest and are trying to win something free are too frugal to ever buy clothing at that price ... so it's a marketing mistake!

I sent everyone who posted before me a PM to let you know I moved the thread here. (It was in the Winner's Circle and it turns out to not be a win in the usual sense of the word...and the thread was turning into a discussion so General Sweeps Talk is a better place for it.)

It is not a real win, although the word "win" was used to get our attention. Sweeps are in many ways advertising campaigns, but understandably, this email came across as misleading and disappointing to sweepers. I have seen a few similar emails. Too bad, because I did look at the site and actually like their clothing!

Wishing everyone real wins soon!

arrtup3 - one of the more painful milestones of sweeping - getting that 1st "Congrats/You WON" type email that is just a notification that *someone* won, and btw, "wouldn't you like to purchase our product/service?"

Yes, and this particular email was extra tricky. When I saw the subject line, "And the winner is...you!" I knew it was advertising, but it was presented in a way that the sponsor could argue is truthful, because you had to vote on 1 of 3 trench coat designs (a daily), and in the email, my design was supposedly the winner (most likely everyone got the same message, with the coat they voted for appearing first). [Supposedly the coat I voted for won, so I won, and now I can buy it or something else...]
