I don't know if I am still a newbie or not but I don't feel very smart about some SA issues. I see people asking for votes. Can someone please tell me what this is all about? Thanks.

You know how some contests ask for a pic/essay/etc.? Some of them judge the entries, while others hold a voting contest to determine the winner.
