Void where prohibited

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before. Can someone please tell me why so many sweeps are void in NY? Also, I would love to play free lotteries online but am not able to. I was playing one for several months and then found it was void in NY. It didn't even say it. Thank you.

It's just not NY. Probably just seems like it if you live in NY. There can be many reasons for this, the laws of each state are different concerning gambling, lotteries and sweepstakes. Alot of times it is because the sponsor doesn't service certain states so the people living in those states aren't eligible. Or maybe they just don't like NYer's! (just kidding) :laughing:

You will often see that Rules exclude FL, NY and RI. Florida and New York require the sponsor to register and bond the sweepstakes if the total retail value of the prizes is greater than $5,000. It is sometimes easier for a sponsor to simply exclude these states rather than put the extra work in to accomodate that state's legal requirements.
