Verification Codes

Does anyone know if anyone has ever challenged the legality of "verification codes" (those pictures of letters and numbers that are frequently hard to decipher)? I know that major companies have been sued because of having websites that are too graphics based and therefore are inaccessable to those with visual disabilities who use text reading software to access the internet. I'm just curious becasue I would think these make it extremely difficult for people to register for some websites and definetly for entering sweepstakes. Maybe they get around the law by allowing paper entries as well. On a few rare occasions when registering for sites it's given contact info (usually an email addy) to contact if you cannot read the code. This still seems unfair becasue you have to wait for a response..and i've never seen this option for a sweep

Hm..
