Good Week, with great news of 7up/ Dollar General Captain America contest I won One Harley-Davidson® Sportster® Forty-Eight™ (ARV: $10,889) and 1,000 to help with taxes. BUT !!! I am currently unable to get my motorcycle license and am pissed off, biggest win to date and I might have to forfeit because rules state Winner must have a motorcycle license. Don't know what to do ?? Such a huge win to lose because of legalities  Hopefully if I have to forfeit someone else on SA can win it.... Really bummed
"To enter you must be a legal resident of the United States or the District of Columbia, at least the Minimum Age, have a valid motorcycle license and be able to show proof of insurance."

GREAT WIN! :headbang:

Hope it works out. :sunny:

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

Awesome win!!! I wanted to win this so bad. Could you possibly have someone you know pick up the prize? I would talk to the sponsor. :sunny:

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

If, for any reason, a prize cannot be awarded or winner is not capable of redeeming a prize, Sponsor is not obligated to award it...
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING THE TIME TO READ THE RULES.....

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

Yeah; you should read the rules- someone out there probably would be able to take it and now it may just be gone. I still feel really guilty about winning a trip that I ended up not going on at the very last second. Good luck though; hopefully you will be able to get it somehow!

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

Sorry about your not being able to get a motorcycle license, but does anyone in your family have a license, like a wife?? I don't know if that would count though. Sorry.

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

So, per the rules you must have a motorcycle license at the time of entry? It seems like if your able to get the license after you've won (but before you have received your prize) you should be able to claim it. I'm curious myself because my husband has been entering the other 7up/Captain America sweeps for a Harley, and he doesn't CURRENTLY have his motorcycle license, though he did have one for many years. He didn't bother to renew his license the last time because he had to sell his bike for the cash...

Anyway, I really hope you are able to work something out with them so you can claim your prize. Good luck!

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

How very disappointing! I hope you win something bigger next time. Congratulations and Condolences.

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

Oh no I'm so sorry. Maybe you can work something out with the sponsor. Does anyone in your family have a motorcycle license? I wonder if you can work it out that way? Good luck and Congratulations

and for the life of me I can't figure out why since I never had motorcycle license and even though I can/could ride, I don't plan on getting one!!! I must have thought they'd give cash in lieu???

but the rules say:

Prizes are non-transferable and non-redeemable for cash. No substitution of prizes is permitted

The rules don't say you have to have a motorcycle license NOW:

Winner will be required to present a valid motorcycle license and proof of insurance

Just like you'd talk to the power company if you were a little short so they wouldn't just shut off the power and leave you with not only the bill you couldn't pay, but a disconnect and a connect fee if you just "wished it away" You don't know unless you ask, so ask if you are eligible, and if they will work with you on it. :sunny:

If it doesn't work out? You'll have learned a hard lesson and will probably pay closer attention - that's how I became such a rules maven!!! :crazytongue:

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

 Wow, what a bummer. Most of the sweeps for motorcyles have this rule. I don't have a license but my hubby does, so I always enter him.

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

OH NO! I HOPE YOU CAN CLAIM YOUR PRIZE!!

It appears there is a statment that the Sponsor may subsitute, but I am sure you will have to make a call and grovel al little. I hope it all works out well for you!!!

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

Well thanks for the ppl who offered Congrats! And to the people who say read the rules, it is ignorant of you to think I didn't. I've been doing this along time, I aint no newbie. So I did read the rules and thought I would be able to obtain my license. Because of a disability the DMV restricted my use for a motorcycle because I had failure of limb at one time. And it was never corrected and now because they are slow as molasses, I wont get this corrected by the DMV in time to claim. Not that I need to explain myself to ignorant people but I think it shallow of you who did. I since had surgery and things are fine just didnt know DMV had this restriction on my license. It will be corrected just not in enough time. And BTW the sponsor allows you time to get your license or permit to fulfill obligations to meet requirements. But for me DMV said 2-3 months after I send in what they need. So I am sure sponsor will find another winner. So GL to others. Maybe just maybe I will win another bike sometime after I get the DMV corrected.

Re: Grand Prize Win Huge but might have to give it up

I hope I wasn't one of the shallow ones. I feel so bad for you. I hope you recover quickly, and maybe win a car!! My prayers are with you!
