Tojans/Viruses etc. from Sweeps Sites?

Are the sweeps at Woman's World, In Touch, and Life & Style safe? Sometimes my browser completely shuts down when entering them. Today I got a NASTY NASTY virus/Trojan thing that took all day for an IT guy to fix, though I can't say for sure it came from Woman's World. But now I'm a little freaked and afraid to enter anything. Even with up-to-date virus protection, these "worms" seem to get through. Any thoughts? Any sites I should avoid for sure?

Many people have trojan viruses and don't know it until much later, even days. I doubt it came from Womans World or some other major magazine. I have norton anti-virus and have never been infected. It costs $30 per year but I think its worth it. Especially if you have several people using the same computer. Good Luck.

Re: Trojans/Viruses etc. from Sweeps Sites?

I enter all the women's day sweeps and have never been infected with any worms or virus. I also use Norton and must say it is so worth paying the $30 a year for it. that does not pay an IT tech for half and hour, as unfortunately I am sure you know. Good luck and I would suggest getting really good virus protection then you don't have to worry about it.

Yesterday and today when I clicked on Point and click sweepstakes, trogan and adware.I run Mcafee and adware. I also try to only use firefox because I heard it was harder to attacks.Has anyone else been having a problem? I really like their sweeps.

I haven't had a problem that I am aware of. I also used Norton in the past but if you have Comcast they give you an upgraded McAfee for free, so far so problems with McAfee either.

I also have had the fake computer scan pop up on the point and click sweeps twice in the last few days.

I use AVG virus and fire wall protection. I have never had a virus, worm, or any other creature on my computer. I set the software to do automatic updates so I know I always have the latest anti-virus protection. The cost is about the same as Norton and the others. :sunny:

Also getting the trojan pop ups when entering sites like M Magazine, Quiz Fest ect.

getting fake "need to scan your computer pop up" from womans world and my avast virus program warned me about a virus from womans day a couple of days ago......

I never had any problems with any of the Bauer sweepstakes and have been entering them all for as long as they've been running sweepstakes. My anti-virus/anti-spyware program has them as safe sites. :sunny:

The pop-up could actually have nothing to do with the magazine/sweepstakes sites that you are visiting. More than likely you picked up the virus somewhere else and its throwing scam pop-up windows periodically regardless of the website. You need to scan your system with a known virus protection product.

"If you are a novice computer/internet user you should definitely have regularly updated virus protection software". I recommend Norton Anti virus 2010 as it scans and loads quickly and does not slow your system down to a crawl. If you have the latest version of Windows you should also run windows defender scans to make sure your system is clean from the viruses that the antivirus programs do not catch.

I have anti virus and scanned my computer with an anti-malware program and do not have any problems on my computer. This has only popped up with I went to the click and point sweeps the last couple of days. Seems almost identical to the issue that happened with the celebrity cafe sweeps that are no longer listed on SA.

You should try a complete computer cleanup. You can have other things in there like "hacker cookies". You would need to delete cookies and history. Then, run your "disk cleanup" and "defragmenting" programs.

I would run this for that type of problem. Its free. http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Yes, I use ad-aware and malwarebytes anti-malware and neither program detects anything.

Everything is fine, I don't believe anything was downloaded to my computer. When I visited the site a dialog box would pop up saying something to the effect that the computer needed to be scanned and to click ok to continue. I closed the pop up and then closed the web page. I always have antivirus running and do a spyware scan every so often just to be safe.

I opened and entered all the pointclick sweeps listed to see if I could get it to pop up again and did not have any problems today. If it does it again I will take a screen shot.

If that is what I think it is, it has nothing to do with the site you are visiting. This is something that has become a common problem lately as a new way to spread a virus.

There was another thread here referring to this problem, and I know it is happening to a lot of people.

Anyone who clicks on anything in this bogus popup will get a virus/trojan from it. I don't believe there is currently anything to stop it from occurring as it is random throughout the internet other than immediately closing up the window it occurs in without clicking on anything in the popup other than "x".

It looks like the same thing jaxwinner posted a heads-up on here:

http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/spyware-popup-t61943.0.html;msg429165#msg429165

"Problem with the contest link from dailygame.net:

This site has a spyware warning that pops up and then opens a fake computer screen showing what appears to be a computer infected with a virus. I noticed it yesterday and today when I had my popup blocker turned off.

Someone less familiar with browsing might download this junk and it could cause problems."

*******

I also got the fake message 1X a few days ago. As you advise, the thing to do is "immediately closing up the window it occurs in without clicking on anything in the popup other than 'x'"
