SSN

In the case of winning a trip for 2 people, why does the sponsor ask for social security number of the comapnion? I understand SSN of the winner- for the tax purposes, but companion? What is your experience with this?

It seems a little scary just to give away your ssn nowadays...

I know this is a little late. I have been away recently so I apologize. If there is any form of transportation involved in the trip, I believe the SS# must be provided under the antiterrorism act. This is my understanding, but I could be wrong.
