Ok so since I have been entering sweeps again. I keep getting phone calls from different numbers saying their records show I am interested in going back to school. I am not interested in going back to school, have never to my knowledge never signed up for anything. This last guy that called me this morning, said that I have recently made a purchase or filled out a survey online and that is how they know that I am interested in going back to school. I told him I was not interested at all and he went on to say that he is required to offer me some magazines for my time. He mentioned Lucky, allure, shape and some others. I said no I am not interested and he said now you do realize that magazines are the cheapest form of entertainment even cheaper than going out to dinner. I again said I am not interested. He then finally hung up...

My question is has anybody gotten these phone calls before and if so do you know which sweep it is from??? I really want these calls to stop. I thought well maybe since he was trying to offer me the magazines that it was from one of the magazine sweeps, but I have entered them before without having this problem.

Any suggestions??? Because I want to find out which one or ones it is so I can stop entering and get the phone calls to stop..

I know some of the survey companies pass their paticipant's info on to schools as "interested"... my mom gets those calls occasionally.

Not sure about which sweeps might though, maybe some of the sweeps that have you click "skip" past a billion screens? (I tend to skip those, too much work and they've always felt more "scammy" than others) or I've notices some of the FB sweeps have a checkbox about going back to school... not wildfire or bigprize, but the other base-app that's prevalent...

 In all the years that I have been sweeping I have only received a couple of calls and then was because I overlooked a check box about being contacted. You can always hang up instead of listening to them. Or just say not interested and then hang up.

It might not have been from a sweeps, but if it was? Even if you DID discover which sweeps you OK'd a 3d party to contact you thru? All you could do is warn others - once they get your info, it's almost impossible to shake them. :cussing:

I screen all my calls, letting the answering machine take them, and they do eventually give up.

But just like with spam, if you respond/engage with them, then they know the info is good, and they will NOT stop!

If it's a reputable company, then you *might* be able to undo the damage:

I am getting those same calls about School even though I had not checked the boxes on yes, I checked no that I would not be interested, they call me anyway. I tell them that I am 59 years old, disabled and don't intend on going back to school and to take me off their list, I still get those calls. I have started to block numbers when they call but they get around that too. It is a problem for me as well, but I really don't get a lot of calls, maybe every couple of days. Good luck to you, and I am going to read some in this site for info.

I am getting the same calls too and I am very good at reading rules and boxes, I was going to post the same thing. I am so sick of these calls. If anyone figures it out please let us know

 katiesmom I keep in mind that when a sponsor chooses to use their advertising money on a promotion {sweepstakes, contest, etc.} that they are looking for new customers and/or trying to keep the ones they have.

Most sponsors get that customers don't want to be bombarded with emails/calls/texts, so they will spell it out, while others will hide it in their PP {Privacy Policy} - that's where they'll admit how they'll use your info - we are all responsible for reading them, along with the rules, before we commit our info.

My rule of thumb is to scan rules/ PP's when I come across an unfamiliar sponsor, but even the big names can change from promo to promo, so we need to keep on our toes!

I was getting these calls on my cell phone, and I called and told them that I was being charged every time they called me and asked them to stop calling. And amazingly enough, they did stop! So perhaps you could take that route.

If it is the same school each time and you have requested to be put on their do not call list, you can report them to the BBB. I had to do this for one school that I had called to find the price of a course for my granddaughter. I told them at the time I just wanted to know the cost and please don't call me. They didn't do as I asked and would call me sometimes twice a day, and at least 4 times a week. Each time I was polite and asked to be put on their do not call list ... it didn't work. Then I looked online and found where their headquarters were and called them and asked to be put on the do not call list .... it didn't work. So then I contacted the BBB in the town/area the headquarters is located. The calls then stopped. This will only work if you are getting repeated calls from the same school, not various schools. Keep track of who calls, date time etc., tell them to put you on the do not call list and if you get a repeater then contact the BBB. Good luck! I know it is frustrating!

I kept getting these they other day and they were for my elderly mother to go back to school! Very annoying.

Whenever I get "un-wanted" calls, I just act crazy or hard of hearing or babble in another language, and they NEVER call back. :p

Works for me too! HEHE... Yell something like "granpa I told you to stop drinkin out the toilet and peeing in the sink" No call backs here :)

My husband just lays the phone down and walks away for a time.... We don't get many call backs and it requires no effort ;-)

When I lived in a bad neighborhood {while stationed in San Diego in the 80's} I'd act like I was talking to myself and twitch a lot to keep from being mugged! :p
