So Angry

This is not a win but I am putting it in winners circle for all to see. Last night I was doing my sweeps and went to Grand Marnier to do their Facebook contest, All of the sudden my computer caught a virus and immediately shut down. This all happened before my antivirus caught it. It informed me my computer committed a illegal act. They wanted $300.00 in order to allow me to use my computer again. Thank God my husband is a computer genius. It took him four hours of hard work to correct and free up my computer. I am so disappointed in Sweepstakes Advantage. Do they not check these contest before they post them for unsuspecting users???? I feel everyone should now be cautious in doing their sweeps on Sweepstakes Advantage. As I said above my husband is a computer geek I have the best antivirus protection there is. If it did not catch this God others who do not have the advantages I have with my computer. Sweepstakes Advantage I feel like you have let me down. I will never use this site again to do my sweeps. I feel you did not do your job. If you had you would have caught this error in time to save me and my husband the stress it caused on Christmas day. Best of luck to all of you that continue to patronage Sweepstakes Advantage.
By the way did anyone else successfully enter the Grand Marnier sweeps without incident ????? Would like to hear some feedback.

misplaced anger

well I would not be so angry at sweepsadvantage; as you said it was the grand marnier facebook page! The same thing happened to my coworker and she does not use sweepsadvantage! I will continue to "patronage" sweepsadvantage lol

Laylabean, I am so sorry this happen to you. However if you can find a computer expert they can correct your computer. Like I said in my post it took my husband 4 hours to correct my issue. So and hang in there. Good luck be blessed

Keelz23 , Why shouldn't I be angry with SA . If they had done there job Myself and others would not have been infected. So go right ahead a use SA !! When you get a virus you will feel the same way. All SA would have to have done is check these sites before the post them !!!! Its very clear they let us down !!! I am furious !!

I would not blame SA because they really do have the best sweeps site on the web. You visited a third-party website that SA has no responsibility for. I'm sure that before they listed it, somebody tried it out. Hackers can infect and tamper with virtually any website. Happy holidays.

The same thing happened to me and I shut my computer down by turning it off, I then did "go back" on my computer to a time earlier before I did the Grand Marnier sweeps and my computer is fine--Thank God. Try that if you can.

As far as you blaming SA janlbeebo that's really not fair. They--Grand Marnier could have been hacked after the fact. We do not know when the problem occurred so it's really unfair to blame SA as people have been entering sweeps here for years without a problem. Sorry that you had the problem, so did I but I am not by any means blaming SA. After all, sites are hacked after they are up. Hopefully you can do the "go back" on your computer and get your computer straightened out. Good luck.

I thought it was just me. I had to have my computer do a restore 2 times in the last 3 months from viruses. I thought it was the twitter and blog sites so I stopped using those sweeps. I had an IT tech tell me it was one of the worst he seen. I had to use the factory restore both times in addition to resetting my accounts and passwords because my accounts were hacked. I am being very careful with what sweeps I enter. Not worth replacing my computer of getting identity theft.

WHO wanted $300 to ALLOW you to use YOUR computer again?

So Angry 2

This once happened to me. I let a guy use my computer who was staying the night. It turns out he was looking at porn all night (pig!). When I turned on my computer it said "The FBI has shut down yoru computer. You may pay a fine of 200." it wanted me to wire money. YEA RIGHT! lol. Like the fbi would give you a get out of trouble free card with money. I couldn't get the screen off, so I started the computer in safe mode and restored the computer to a previous date. But now I'm left with LOADS of spyware.

janlbeebo,

I sent you a pm to let you know I moved your post/thread here.

Please remember that the Winner's Circle is only for posting wins. There are places in the forum designated for other types of posts.

I am sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience. Any time is bad to get a virus, but Christmas Day is extra bad!

Thank you to everyone who helped clarify and shed more light on this unfortunate experience for janlbeebo.

Bummer but crap happens.

Sorry to hear you got a virus but not sure why you are blaming it on SA. YOU choose what sweeps you enter. They post them all and it is up to YOUR discretion as to which ones you enter. I have been using SA for the last 7 years and no problems. Appreciate the warning about viruses on the sweeps we enter though. I'm not sure why your anti-virus program didn't block it. I would be more upset the antivirus program didn't do IT'S job. After all, you are paying for that :(.

This is a virus. You have to have it removed. But this should really be posted in another forum, not the winner's circle.

I am not an expert, but everyday after sweeping, I clean my cache, cookies, and run a full system scan with my antivirus. Its not a 100 percent safeguard, but since I visit so many sites, I feel better doing it and I (knock-on-wood) haven't had a virus attack in the many years I've been sweeping. It really isn't SA's fault like others have said. Any website can have a virus attached at anytime and it may not have even been the website you thought it was--they are sneaky things. Good luck to you.

I think that I did also get some type of virus when I entered it yesterday. Did you notify Grand Marnier so this doesn't happen to anyone else?

janlbeebo, I understand your anger, but you are angry at the messenger {SA} when you should direct your anger at the "perp" who hijacked the FB page for Grand Marnier.

This was discussed in the comments;

When I saw it I checked the Grand Marnier main FB page to see if anyone else reported an issue and didn't see anything - there are posts about it now though.

Grand Marnier your sweepstakes tab is infected with a virus!!!

I'm pretty sure this is the virus:

The United States Department of Justice Malware
http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-department-of-justice-virus

As noted, the FB site could have been infected at any time, and SA has NO control over how sponsors run their sweeps, or what platforms they choose to use.

Also, it IS possible the infection was already on your comp, and going to that FB page triggered it.

The virus could have come from anywhere with instructions to active at a later time. You could have acquired it hours or days earlier.

If you don't already have internet security software, I'd sugggest you download a free version at minimum or a pay version such as Norton, Kaspersky or Mcafee.

Google internet security software and you'll find a bunch of 'em. AVG and Avast offer free internet security software.
