Snail Mail??? How much postage do you spend a month?

I am just wondering if anyone snail mails in here... I just wrote out 30 envelopes and 30 3x5 cards to go out tomorrow for the Sears Reimagine Your Home $300k Giveaway Sweeps! I need the money so bad and I think its worth entering everyday. Just curious if anyone is also sending out their info, not only to this sweep, but others as well, and how much you spend in postage each month.

Does anyone know if you can write off envelopes, 3x5 cards, pens, and postage for sweeping as a hobby?? Obviously, I am going to need all the tax breaks I can get this year.

I rarely enter snail mail sweeps, I really want to but, the postage is getting really high.

Well Furt,
I rarely enter snail mail contests. But when I do I enter using the post cards directly from the United States Postal Service. Much cheaper than stamps. The cost of the card with prestamped postage is .26 cents. You can save some moolah if you can send just a 3x5 card. I just bought some Yesterday matter if fact. Well GL to ya.

I do enter snail mail - I have read a couple of times where people had good luck doing it! when I go to mail a bill I just buy a book of stamps and then use the rest after bills for snail mail. Have had about equal wins versus loses.

When entering snail sweeps, or mail sweepstakes, there are some expenses that entrants should consider. The biggest expenses for mail sweepstakes are stationery. Stationery includes envelopes, cards, postcards, pens, markers and postage stamps. Entrants should always ensure they ask for a receipt when buying stationery for their sweepstakes entries. When they win, they can deduct it from their tax.

:sunny: Good research Jen! I was just going to say that you can use it as a deduction from winnings by snail mail that you are claiming. You can't use it if you have no winnings to claim.
Just like you can deduct what it cost you to win at the Casino. If some of you are into the casinos, withdraw your gambling money from the atm at the casino and save your receipt as it can be used as a deduction on your winnings.

That's because, at that point, it now equates to an income; but I don't foresee the expenses from snailmail wins equating to very much.

You can also make your 3x5 cards out of things like cereal boxes.

I'm with you, "Liz". I looooove saving money. I think we should start a thread with fave $$ saving tips. I think I'm gonna start trying snail mails. So many hit the daily's and IW's.

Re: Snail Mail??? newby questions

Hi,

When you experienced folks enter "mail in only" sweeps, how many entries do you typically send?
Do you think you have a better chance at a win in the "mail in only"? ( as opposed to the on-line entries, which are soooo easy) I guess my thinking is the mail in would have fewer entries... I have no basic to know if that is true or not...
What about the mail in as an alternate entry method? (for example, daily via internet but unlimited by mail in)? Do you think the mail in is competitive?

and thanks for the idea about buying prestamped post cards from the Post Office!

Marsha

You don't have any more a chance at winning by snailmailing than by entering online. The envelopes get assigned a number, and the numbers are added as individual entries along with the online entries which all are randomized together. I only snailmail when it's something I really want, and I don't have an online option; but if you can enter 1x per envelope, I don't get that crazy.

Re: Snail Mail??? newby questions

Thanks for your insight! LOL, I was imagining all the little 3x5 slips of paper going into a huge box then someone pulling one out! The mail in that I am entering (Jameson Full On) is unlimited mail in or a one time text message. I sure can't go nuts either with the cost of postage and the time it takes to get each entry ready to mail. If there is a better chance of winning though I wouldn't mind the costs. I love on line entries!

I mailed in 30 envelopes today for a mail in sweeps, the mailmans face was like... what the heck because they were all going to once place. lol.... I Want to win the $300,000 Sears Sweeps badly... Entering everyday, I just pray I get it!
