Smokers sweeps-are you a smoker?

I am not a smoker so never enter those sweeps but wondering if non smokers do anyway. The rules list smokers as the eligibility requirements but how would they know either way, except for being honest.

I also feel squeamish entering a sweeps for a known carcinogen.

Anyway would any of you admit you enter them although a non-smoker? I am tempted, I would like to win one of those gift cards.

I tried to enter and tell the truth that I was not a smoker nor chewed tobacco (a couple months ago) and the entry form sort of rejected me and said I could not enter. It was specifically a chewing tobacco brand.

i once entered a tobacco sweep though a non smoker, they always have such nice prizes and lots of winners..for me i couldnt do it past 3 days..as tempting as it was i couldnt accept winnings from companies that profit from harmful to humans business..on top of that i live in CA and cant enter the liquor sweeps!!

I thought I'd answered this before  & yep - a quick search netted me:

Non smoker would like to enter sponsor contests!

What you decide to do is your decision, but SA does not encourage nor condone its members to knowingly break the rules.

Because of the war on tobacco, to protect the children, you have to swear to be a user to enter. Not just mark a checkbox, you have to give them your SSN.

With the advent of OBAMACARE, and health records {most likely} going online, it *might* pose a problem in the future if you tell your insurance company you don't, then basically swear out an affidavit that you do to enter.

From the comments, barry908 noted:

As a former AVP of a insurance company I have seen where upon receipt of a large claim (ex. lung cancer) investigation finds applicant made misrepresentations. Perhaps a google search would find a winners list in this contest?? Not sure it makes sense to pay for insurance, only to undermine a possible claim in the future buy entering a tobacco company sweepstake hoping for a small win.

AND:

The party offering a sweepstakes may have to file a winners list in each state they offer a contest/prize/sweepstake in. This documentation my vary by state but could include proof of payout in the form of list of winners. One may want to research the terms - Rescind and Policy Rescission prior to entering a tobacco contest.

I don't smoke and will never enter a smokers' sweeps but I certainly can relate to that feeling/observation, "Wow, so many people winning from smokers' sweeps!" Seems like tons in the past week or so, in both the Winner's Circle and Comments!

Congrats to them  and good luck to all of us as we stay honest and move on to other sweeps! :headbang:

Thanks everyone.

Hopefully because we don't use those products we have many healthy years of sweeping ahead of us.

Thank you to all of you non-smokers who do not enter tobacco sweepstakes. I believe in only entering for sweepstakes in which you are eligible. I am a smoker and was just a little bit disappointed when I won the digital dice from camel sweepstakes and I knew some of the better prizes went to non-smokers.

This is what I think Marlboro sweepstakes should do with all the ranch trip winners......as soon as they arrive, give them a Marlboro and make them smoke it. That would tell you quickly who's a smoker. Let them then stay but at least you would know they lied to get there.

IIRC, someone posted years ago they had won a similar trip and had a horrible time due to all the smoke.

Tobacco sponsors are like any sponsors - when a sponsor chooses to use their advertising money on a promotion {sweepstakes, contest, etc.} they are looking for new customers and/or trying to keep the ones they have.

However, they are unique in that they have higher hurdles in affirming their entrants are old enough and aren't in Mass. :crazytongue:

So while is IS on them to police their promos, being rude to a winner would be counterproductive.

I know Amy but I was only joking....... but picturing the non-smokers sputtering and spewing trying to smoke made me laugh to myself. Guess, I'm still so bummed about the digital dice that a part of me wants a little revenge. But, I do wish people could play by the rules and the tobacco sweepstakes are one of the most abused.

Agreed beat1, tobacco sweepstakes are one of the most abused, but all we {sweepers} can do is hope our fellow sweepers will follow the rules and that the sponsors will enforce them, then enter & forget it.

I was very unhappy my first 6 months, allowing myself to be concerned with what others did until I realized I was only affecting myself - that it was counterproductive to focus on the negative since in the end, I had NO control of the outcome.

Now, when I see members winning on the SKOAL, Marlboro sweepstakes, and Camel sweeps, I'm happy for them. My biggest win was from a tobacco sweepstakes {$10,000} and last year I won $1,000 from Marlboro, so even though I may not be able to win now, I know I can in the future, and as an added bonus? No upset tummy from fretting, lol!!!

I don't lose any sleep over it but if I'm ever able to post a great win from a tobacco sweepstakes I and everyone else will know I won it fair and square.

You have never posted anything to give me the impression that you try to gain an unfair advantage in any way beat1 - I was just oddly verbose yesterday :crazytongue:

I do get a little jealous sometimes of all the prizes they offer for smokers in smokers only sweepstakes, but I usually just remind myself that the winnings one gets from those will most likely be offset by medical bills :)
