Selling prizes

Is it legal, in most cases, to sell prizes that you win that you don't want? Say I win tickets to a football game, or a trip to somewhere I'm not interested in, and I know someone else would appreciate that more. Do most all of the contests allow you to sell the prize, or are there some that say you have to use it?
 
In my experience, most do not allow you to transfer the prize if they are experiences like tickets to a game or a trip. If they are products, that is different. They will ship you the product and you can do whatever you want with it.
 
If you are entering any sweepstakes with a trip, tickets, etc with the thought of selling it just read the rules. They will spell it out for you. And no most do not allow it.
 
It's always good to check the rules, but winning a prize is a lot like gift giving. Once it is given, the recipient can do what they want with the gift, including selling it, although I don't recommend doing it regularly. There are many things one "could" enter to win but it might be something that someone else is dreaming of winning.
