Selling gift cards on Ebay

Does any one know why people would buy gift cards for more than there value? I was going to list some cards I have but am unsure about it. Any advise would be great.

Thanks,
Lisa

I doubt anyone would pay more than the face value of a gift card. An example where I might put a gift card on eBay would be if I won a gc to a store where I don't/can't shop. For example, a Winn Dixie gc would be useful for someone in the south, but useless to someone up north. Since the win didn't cost me anything, getting less than the face value for it would mean I'd still come out ahead.

I was going to sell my safeway gift card and saw people were bidding higher than the value of the card and I could not understand why.

My guess is because there is a lot of fraudulent bidding on eBay.

A really good example of that was when they had one of the original cars from the "Dukes of Hazard" show signed by the cast up for bidding. The proceeds were to go to charity. The winning bid was over $2,000,000, and the bidder ended up not responding to the auction win notification--just someone bidding with no intention of actually buying it let alone have the money for it anyway.

We washed our hands of eBay when our account was hacked three times. Each time it was hacked, we had to set up a new account and password just to have it hacked again. Then, a purchase I made arrived damaged; and the seller didn't want to hear about it, trying to blame it on USPS. Although, she never bothered to package the boxed merchandise properly. She just taped a piece of paper with our address on it to the merchandise box (the thin kind of box) and sent it out unprotected. :nono:

Sometimes I have good luck selling gift cards on ebay, but if I have a larger amount on a gift card, I sell it to cardpool.com. You get less value than the card is worth, but at least you don't lose the whole amount by someone on ebay saying they never received it or couldn't use it. I have steered away from ebay as much as possible. Cardpool.com will pay for postage to send the card to them with tracking info. They will send you a check in the mail. For me, it is worth losing some of the value but knowing I will get a fair amount for it.
Good Luck!!
