How do these Text contests work?

Some of them have several codes you can send it, but sometimes State specific.

I received a text today from Corona asking to send info, assumed I won something.

I found out I was selected for the Big Game Arizona Sweepstakes Grand Prize 1 of 14 $500 Gift Cards.

The sent affidavit but stated it was only for legal AZ residents..

so when I send in a code and it asks that I give my state, which I did "MA" for Massachusetts why does it accept my entry for that contest and not just for any Mass related ones??

First time I've been picked to win something but not eligible to receive it, and I assume not much I can do about it.

Yes, I have a good bit of sympathy for you, it's happened to me for a surprise trip win that included cash, but no cash option, so I won nothing in the end. Bluntly, -no- if you're going against "official rules" there's just about nothing you can do IMO......I mean you can ask, like when I did BUT she just quoted the rules. *sob *tear ......I also won a nice grilling spatula one time and the win was not honored even though the store listed was the exact same name as the one I selected, and again I called on the phone. Well, try not to think of it is my advice. The WORST is when you find the win notice a couple days or weeks from the time u r supposed to claim it. But, don't let it discourage you...On to the next sweeps... you proved you 'can' win....yay! But, if there's any confusion about winning a prize I would call on the phone or Email pretty quickly. After all, maybe you are right!!!!

I won a $250 gift card for a TX only text entry. I usually read the rules very well. I was disappointed I let that one slip through. I had my fingers crossed they would take pity on me and still send it but they were more like yeah sucks for you.

Sorry it happened to you guys too

Yeah, I emailed them back asking why the entry was accepted when the additional text questions also asked to validate State. When I entered MA for Mass and not AZ for Arizona, it still said thanks for entry. I would have thought the text entries would have been programmed up front to let me know I was not eligible.

But at least today I won a Merderma instant win Prize pack AVR $257.85... Nice Consolation!

You asked "why does it accept my entry for that contest and not just for any Mass related ones"

simple answer? Sponsors expect US to do our due diligence, read & comply w/the rules & be aware of/agree w/the privacy policy

Most sponsors use a 3d party [JA] to run their promo & fulfill prizes

& they do tend to use forms/apps that don't restrict entry BUT the rules RULE

sometimes rules will be updated w/new dates/eligibility/prizes but the link to the rules will be the same as for past promos - IOW: boiler plate [boilerplate] rules

Thanks Amy,

Yes, I did not notice the State Restriction when I had entered.. Amazing that I entered only once and was picked. but I do know it was my fault.

candlepinman - whenever I answer a Q I try to add in the basics on up for other members that may read a thread.

We all get caught up in the "What if I actually won this cash/car/trip?" excitement!

In fact, I became a rules maven because I trusted the listing was vetted [another sweeps site] so I didn't check & see the rules clearly state it was a 1xphh/day NOT a 1xpp/day IW as was listed, and got a
"You were DQ'ed {DisQualified} because more than 1 person at your home address [hh] HouseHold entered & also won, and now neither of you will get a prize" email that made me feel lower than a snakes belly! :o
