scam e-mail safety

I keep getting email from UK lottery and Nigeria as well as other unknown "people". I can usually tell if it's something bizzare and I don't open it but there have been a few times it seemed like something I wanted to check and did open it. I know not to click on any links within the mail but can there be harm done by simply opening an e-mail?
 
No, not unless they were coming in with certain types of viruses or trojans. These people are just in for the scamming not in bringing down your computer. You can try blocking each and every one, but they do change around their emails periodically. Mine have decreased somewhat from blocking them.
 
It depends on which email program you're using. In "Outlook Express", you just go into "Message" and "Block Sender".
 
Thanks, I'll check it out. I'd like to try blocking them, I'm up to about 5-6 of these e-mails a day. I appreciate your response. :sunny:
