Rules that need to be proofread

Yes I am one of those sweepers that does read the rules. Since JAs like to copy and paste when doing rules sometimes they can have mistakes or unneeded rules in them.

Example: One per household on a sweep that's only has one prize. :scratch:

My new favorite is the new Lysol Word Scramble. They are giving $1000 a week till March 5 2009. I went into the rules to check on what day the week starts on (The correct answer if you would to know is starts on Friday and ends on Thursday)

Below is what the official rules state the sweepstakes period is

The Sweepstakes period ("Sweepstakes Period") is from 12:01:00 AM Eastern Standard Time March 5, 2009 to 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time March 5, 2009.

Note to self make sure not to work on March 5 it is going to be a long day. :crazytongue:

So what is your favorite rule mix up.

The rules are a mess in a lot of the sweeps. My pet peeve is when they use the same rules for back to back sweeps and forget to change the dates of the contest. It really annoys me.

The other pet peeve I have is when they misspell a state. I live in Massachusetts. I don't live in Massachussetts. I have even e-mailed the JA, the sponsor... and sweep, after sweep, it is still the same. They have Massachussetts. Now, I realize it is not the easiest state to spell, but, I do know how to spell Ohio and I am from Massachusetts! :laughing:

I remember the one that was dated "1995"...it was a car, in what 2001? And needing a driver's license to win a freezer.:scratch: I plan to drive the freezer home, of course!

My pet peeve is the misspelling and the terrible punctuation. Since rules are supposed to be legally binding, something like the omission of a comma can change the meaning of the sentence.

I guess they feel it also saves typing time to only put one space after a "." or ":" instead of the two spaces that are supposed to be there, making it all look like one run-on mess.
 
LIDARKSIDE - too funny. Your first paragraph reminds me of a book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves"...have you read it? It's pretty entertaining. It's about grammar and such and how forgetting commas and other punctuation can really change the meaning of something. As for the title, they are talking about a panda bear that "eats shoots and leaves"....

I've seen many misspellings (did I spell that right? :laughing:) and it drives me up the wall too. I especially hate seeing misspellings on television. I can spot them anywhere and it drives my hubby nuts :crazytongue:
 
No, I never read the book, but I'm the same way as you. I pick out misspelling everywhere. Somewhere along the line teenager got hyphenated (teen-ager), and the Long Island Railroad is spelled "Long Island Rail Road". The new school buses here say "busses" on them. Grammar has gotten atrocious. Even when I post a new sweepstakes in the forum and copy the rules, I correct all the errors in the rules first before posting! :crazytongue:

I did tell you about how they were going to name the railroad here "Atlantic Southern States" and only figured out this would be a problem when they actually got down to painting the initials on the cars? Uh...
