Got a call this morning from a woman who said she was with Publisher's Giveaway and that I was a finalist in the "Dream Come True" Sweepstakes. The final drawing is to be held on May 31st and the grand prize is $25,000 and bedroom furniture. I, of course, was very excited!
Then she said that I had already won 6 subscriptions for various magazines (Cosmo, Glamour etc) and a Geneva Ladies Watch with an ARV of $100. She also said (and this is what made me start to wonder) that the publishers wanted to increase their circulation of weekly magazines and would I be interested in TV Guide (and a few others). I politely declined and she reminded me that the final drawing was May 31st then ended the call rather abruptly.
She asked me for my age, saying that only people 19 or older would be eligible (not my B-day, just my age) which I gave to her. She also confirmed my mailing address (which she already had).
Should I even be suspicious? I have NEVER won anything except small potatoes... I'm not even really sure what is S.O.P. for sponsors of sweepstakes when the prize is anything substantial. Does this sound right or smell fishy?
I did enter a couple of sweeps that had that prize and sort of the same name, but I can't find any matching that exact name.
A little help for the newbie, please, good folks at SA?
