---- I did enter the Tropicana Orange Grove Sweeps, but that drawing was supposed to be at the end of April.

Should I be worried this may be a scam or do some of you experiences sweepers think this e-mail sounds legit?

Thanks !!

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

If the sender's e-mail address looks legit, I would call. NEVER send any money to them. I would ask them what the prize is & what the value of it is. If valued under $500, I would not submit a tax form with social security information to them. My experience, albeit limited, is that the company handling the distribution of prizes just wants to verify name & address.

Good Luck.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I can't guarantee that it's legit, but in 2010 I was notified of a win in the Tropicana Ultimate Super Bowl Experience Sweepstakes, and the notification came from young-america.com, just like your notification.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

Google the 800 number. Looks like a phishing scam.. Alot of folks received emails like that...

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

Seems legit to me. You should be able to verify the number as Young America (google it). Unless it's over $600 you won't have to give them much important info and if it is over $600, the affidavit you'll have to fill out will likely confirm the legitimacy. (just my opinion though, I'm not an expert) Congrats!

As you said, winners would be notified by the end of April. Rules say this and also say unclaimed prizes will not be awarded.

"3. DRAWING. The winners will be selected in a random drawing
conducted on or about April 23, 2012 from among all eligible
entries received. Drawing will be conducted by an independent
judging organization (“Judging Organization”) whose decisions are
final and binding in all matters relating to this Sweepstakes. Potential
winners will be notified by phone, mail and/or email on or about
April 30, 2012."

Also from Rules:

"Prizes are not transferable or
redeemable for cash and prize substitution will not be allowed,
except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor who reserves the right
to substitute prize of equal or greater value. Unclaimed prizes will
not be awarded. Taxes, if any, on prize are the sole responsibility
of winner. If winner cannot accept prize as stated by Sponsor,
prize will be forfeited. Limit one (1) prize per household. Odds of
winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received."

Doesn't say who the judging organization is.

I Googled the phone number and found posts, similar to yours, questioning the legitimacy, but for other contests. Could be legit. Guess you can call and see what you learn, without giving out your personal information, esp. ssn, and without agreeing to pay anything.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

It can't really hurt to give them a call & get more information from them since the email is kind of vague. You should ask what contest it was, what the prize is & they should be able to provide you with a copy of the official rules from whatever contest it is. You could then even contact the sponsor of the sweepstakes to make sure its legit if you want.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

It looks legit young america ran the promotion for tropicana . So I will say congrad's

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the feedback and advice.

I called and the office is closed until Tuesday after the holiday.

Fingers crossed it's legit and a years worth of OJ! (or even less likely a vacation to FL!)

I'll let you all know what comes of it.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I'm pretty sure this is legit. I keep all of my winning emails and I had one similar to this last year that I was leery of. Same phone number which I think is for Young America the administrator. I think the numbers on the bottom of the email identify the sweepstakes id info. I provided my info and it took quite a few weeks, but I did receive my prize.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I got this exact email too!!

So we are all winners - of either OJ or a trip!

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

 Boy I really am not sure about this one. The name of the sweep was the Perfect Pick Sweepstakes not the Orange Grove Trip Sweepstakes. According to their FB page they posted on May 1st that all the years worth of coupons were mailed to the winners and they would be notifying the Grand Prize winner soon. I have a feeling that it is a scam.

I'm thinking that someone who received the email should post on their wall asking if it is legit.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I always use what info they give to see:

1} Was it listed at SA?
2} If yes, did I enter it?

If I get yes for both, I know it's a winner - so, did you enter it?

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

btw - this phone # is legit - I did a search:

This is from 2008:

My wife signed up for a sweepstakes from Target and later got this email. There is nothing obviously fraudulent about it but I am suspicious about them asking for this information (and also the wording "potential prize winner".) Or is it not quite fraudulent but just a sneaky way to build a mailing list?

and the OP followed up with:

For the record, it was legitimate. I was able to call Young America and verify it. All we had to do was sign the paperwork and provide our address.

The rules titled it:

The Tropicana Orange Grove Trip Sweepstakes

And SA titled it:

Tropicana.Com - Orange Grove Trip Sweepstakes
(1) Grand Prize: A trip for winner and winner's (3) guests to Florida to visit an orange grove. Air/Hotel, visit to an orange grove, and $600 spending money (awarded in the form of a check, payable to winner). So I think it is legit - if people always think to check:

1} Was it listed at SA?
2} If yes, did I enter it?

They would be reassured when they say yes to both.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I CHECKED ONE OF MY OLD WINS FROM 2007 AND THAT IS THE PHONE NUMBER TO YOUNG AMERICA. CALL THEM AND VERIFY. YOUNG AMERICA CORP. IS THE OFFICIAL JUDGING ORGANIZATION FOR THAT SWEEP. SO CALL AND CHECK IT OUT.

Re: Possible win? Does this sound legit?

I googled the phone number and found someone posted a question similar to yours in 2010 on a different sweeps forum and in the end it turned out the number was legit and he had received the prize. So, go for it!
