Pinterest Etiquette Question---Somebody repinned my exact pins for a judged contest

Hi Everybody,

I don't have a lot of experience with judged Pinterest contests, so I'm hoping you all can give me some advice.

I created a board for a judged Pinterest contest where the idea is to pin examples of your self-expression through fashion. The most creative and unique board wins.

So I took quite a while searching for the right looks to pin and wrote my own or added to the existing pin descriptions for most of the pins. None of the pins that I pinned to my contest board came from another contestant's board.

Then I got a notice from Pinterest that someone had repinned four of my pins from my contest board onto her own contest board. The pins were the ones where I wrote or added to the descriptions.

The rules say you must pin 5 of the company's pins, plus add your own pins to show how you express yourself through fashion. Well, aside from the company's 5 pins, the only other pins this person used to complete her board were directly repinned from my contest board. So the "creative" part of her board is directly taken from mine.

How should I handle it, or is this a normal part of Pinterest contests that people poach from each other's contest boards for judged contests?

I suppose it would be different if it were a random draw, but the judging criteria here are 1) creativity and 2) uniqueness----so if somebody else has used my exact pins then my own board won't be considered unique.

Thanks for any advice--somebody please clue me in on these judged contests.

Pinterest is a new world. I think as long as its posted on Pinterest its fair game. My question is are the photos of you or merely examples of your personal style? I post other people pins all the time for contests and people post mine as well unless its personal pictures of you I do not know what you can do. However I am no exspert and if anyone else has a diffrent answer I would love to know what it is.You are not the only person who is new to pinterest. Ive only been on it maybe 10 months so Im still getting my wings at it. I think the whole idea of pinterest is to share images unless its on a secret board. That might be family pics or something like that I am thinking. Best wishes.happy sweeping I hope you win Amyleda

Thanks, Amy. Seems odd to have a judged contest if someone else can just copy your board. Maybe the sponsors are more interested in picking winners with the most followers.

Well The judged boards are in my mind the way a person has set up their board and pinned or repinned to get the most artistic outcome. I think the boards are veiwed as virtual pin boards and its like a collage that they judge. To just copy everything is very shady no doubt but to repin one or two and then add a bunch of others and do it in a creative way can make it a whole new board. I have never won a pinterest contest but I have only entered about 5 full boards so far.I have done quite a few smaller ones where you post something on your board as an entry. I think The contest judges should address this and make it clear what they want or exspect out of contestants because its really not right to just raid someones board of original pins.

I agree. Anyway, I think I may have come up with a solution (somewhat) to the poaching problem. I got another notification that one person repinned 7 of my pins for another judged contest.

Here's what I think could work: Pinterest has a secret board feature. You can create boards here that others cannot see. So, create your contest board as usual, but put it in the "secret" section. Keep it there until the last day for contest entry eligibility---then repin the board into the public section, and submit your entry. This cuts down on the viewing time, and could lessen the chances of somebody copying it.
