People's Reactions

Do you ever notice that some people act like they can't believe you won something by sweeping? My favorite reaction was this weekend when I took my DD through the Wendy's drive-thru and used my "Burgers for a Year" GC... this teenage girl said, "Wow, someone must have put a lot of money on your card, I had to call my manager to make sure it was okay, like, I thought it was a scam or something." Geez, no one get me a gift card for fast food for $155 for my birthday or I might be implicated in a scam again. I had to tell the girl that I won it in a contest, she wasn't going to give it back!!! The manager had to come back and tell her to give it to me because she was holding up the drive-thru!!!! At least the manager thought I looked innocent....

I like the ones that look at you like you are crazy. they think im talking about those uk lottery scam emails. fine by me. the less people that believe me the less that will look into it.

Then the people that go from not believing you to being jealous because you actually do win ~ the "what did you win now" people

The same people that think you enter one or two sweeps a day and are the luckiest person in the world!

I have heard it all, I pretty much keep it to myself now except for the people who do believe me. Sometimes they will ask me "so, what have you won lately?" and I will tell them. One problem I do have is free coupons. I save them up and go in and do my grocery shopping with them, I usually get anywhere from 1-10 free items. I am always asked where and how I got them and when I tell the cashiers? They don't seem to believe me 1/2 of the time or just roll they're eyes.

I know what you mean , Saturday I took my laptop to Circuit city to get upgraded it was the one I won in the Libby's scratch off --
I had to show warranty info and explain it was from a contest then I used my $ 250 Circuit city giftcard I won in the AMF sweeps which had to get verified they were stunned and very curious and surprizzed. I didnt say anything just smiled and didnt explain. But I tell you it was fun using all that free stuff.

Most people tend to believe me, but I do get those people that try to convince me that I'm entering scams - despite me telling them what I've won.

I don't think people understand what sweepstakes are. I've gotten every response from, "What you don't know is that you have to pay for all of those items in full eventually," to "I don't have the money it takes to enter sweepstakes." Huh?

One problem I have is that most people I tell about my sweepstaking say, "Wow, you gotta show me how you do that!" No problem, right? However, I have explained to SO many people... showed them this website... showed them how I organize my sweeps... set them up with Roboform... etc. The average that these people last is about a day... if that. I usually get whines and complains from them saying, "It didn't work for me, I didn't win... you must be lucky." I've explained that it takes a long time to start winning... why can't people believe me? This has happened with about 10 people now... I'm done explaining. :/

Sorry to change the subject but what the heck is a DD - as in "when I took my DD through the Wendy's drive-thru"? I know it's an abreviation for something like I have heard BF as in boyfriend or GF as in girlfriend. Guess I am a bit of a middle aged dork but it's kind of driving me crazy trying to figure it out . Been sitting here trying to think  is it I took my divorced dad, ditzy daughter, dirty dog, dunkin doughnuts - just cant come up with anything that makes sence. Feeling kind of old about now .

I get a lot of "you need to get a life." I tell them - this is my hobby. It's what I enjoy! I do have a life!

I know what you're talking about - telling people how to do it - where to go. I mean the only thing more I could do is enter for them - and I'm NOT going to do that. I even bought RoboForm Pro for my daughter & she has yet to use it! :cussing:

I wonder why *those* people aren't winning anything  or NOT! :sunny:

I know a lot of "regulars" at a local casino I frequent, and I tell them about my wins. Maybe because they are gamblers, they don't really question?

I've given my addy to many of those people and once they email me, I send them the link(s) for SA - only 2 out of 8 asked I think?

As far as I know, they haven't followed through - I've told them it's not an overnight, that it can take weeks/months/even years to see a win

Anyway, I think with all the news bites on internet scams, people have a tiny bit of info they think applies to sweeping, so they are sceptical. :error:

Then, when they discover it's all about timing, especially for those elusive instants, and that you must be consistent, persistent, and patient (especially patient  ) and they don't win right away, they give up.

Sweeping is a hobby - I think maybe some approach it as a means to quit their jobs - but winning is too random to count on sweeping as anything but a fun hobby :)

Glad to see that I am not alone. I do have one friend that always complains that she never wins anything (she wanted to start after I won that trip to Hawaii) but every time I ask her if she's been going to the sweeps I forward to her she says no. She didn't want to come to the site because she is just too busy () so I usually forward her any IW that she might be interested in. She won the Bacardi one, but so did everyone. Other than that I don't think she's won. But you can't win if you don't try, right? I love that sweeping is free (I don't enter if it isn't) and I am a SAHM so if I have time I enter, simple as that. My family loves all of the "goodies" that I win that we normally wouldn't be able to afford because of the choice we made for me to stay home. I guess it just bothers me when she gets that tone of "what did you win now" and then almost seems angry when I tell her...now I just tell her that I am not winning much anymore (which is true) to save the attitude...

When I told a few people at work they looked at me like I am one of those computer obsessed geeks that spend all of my free time playing computer games or something. So, I never mention a thing again. My mom keeps telling me "Stop giving out your information online, it's all a scam! Nobody would give away anything for free!" So, it's a hobby that I don't talk much about, there's no need!

I am a process server and work for several lawyers in my city. One day, this lawyer said something derisive about sweepstakes, something to the effect that he couldn't believe someone would believe they could win something with no strings attached. I told him about my 3 trips, my 44,000 Delta SkyMiles, $500 GC to the grocery store, and all the smaller things over the years. He was incredulous. I assured him that reputable firms do this as a form of advertisement and to get their name out there to the public. He asked for specifics, so, I told him about this site. He said he was going to tell his girlfriend to start entering! Always delegating tasks to others, I guess. My very close family and friends know that I win things and that it's all legitimate, but, I don't talk about it all that much out of the circle because I hate to have to start from "kindergarten" to explain it.

OMG - you guys hit the nail on the head...I'm reading all of your posts going "yep, mmm hmmm, yep"...especially 3mnkids & Ping.

When I try to explain about the car I've won, they all say, oh, everytime I try to enter anything it has pages and pages of stuff to fill out, or I have to participate in something. I tell them it's not that type, that I don't click on the ones that flash in your face on a random webpage!

The people closest to me know its legit, and the others are absolutely sure it's a scam thing. One friend of mine was so jealous of all I was winning but didn't want to take the time to enter. Well she decided to try again, and she won, and now she is hooked and probably entering as much as me. Her first question everytime I call is "what did you win???".

I've tried to get others interested, and I send them info and they don't bother. Drives me crazy!! :cussing: But then again, more wins for us :) I just don't want to hear anymore that I'm so lucky and rolling of the eyes.

Great thread guys - I think only us diehard sweepers know how it feels!

Z ~ I hear rumors of winning but I'm with you...in the loser's corner!!
