Okay, I quess it's time to vent a little, or maybe alot according to other sweepers views! I have not won in over a year and that includes instant wins!!! There's unlucky and then there's UNLUCKY!!! Guess which one I am? I have even walked away for a few days thinking I needed to get a fresh prespective about entering contests and it worked for a short time but now I am getting close to giving up all together. I also realize I do not enter all sweeps--I feel if I can't use it, then I should not enter it!
I hope you all believe me when I say I am HAPPY for those that do win. Sure I would like it to be me but that does not seem to want to happen!
Anyways, thanks for letting me vent!

Amherst, Sorry to hear about the unlucky contest period. I tell people that winning contests is 1% luck and 99% work, judging by the time devoted to it. But sometimes that 1% luck seems to go on vacation. Hang in there and it will return. Maybe it will be all freshened-up and ready to go on a win streak. Make sure you let us know when the next win happens!
 
Wow - that is very frustrating! :cry: I don't know if this helps or not, but I keep some of the daily sweeps (with prizes I want, and lots of them!), in my favorites and I make sure I enter them daily...these are the special ones and I personally believe that helps.

I hope your luck will improve - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
 
Sorry to hear of your run of bad luck.

You mention that you limit the sweeps that you enter in to things you truly want/need. Are you limiting yourself too much? I don't mean this negatively, but if you are only entering into sweeps where the odds of winning something are 1,000,000 to 1 or worse, then going a whole year w/ no winning is short, as the odds of winning those prizes are long shots.

I've been doing this for over a year and want to win an iPod, Wii, XBox 360, trip (well, no more on the trip due to other circumstances), car, boat, guitar, HGTV house, and several other very specific prizes. If I only entered those sweeps, I'd be pretty down, too. as I haven't won any of those things.

I also wanted to get a new camera as my old one is "only" 4 megapixels. Not bad, but low by today's standards. I didn't win one, but I won something else that I was able to trade for a better camera. You can also give the wins you don't personally need as gifts. I've clothed my bro-in-law in free t-shirts for some time. I keep the ones I like and pass along the others that I don't like as much.

Keep trying. You'll definitely not win if you don't try. But, if you aren't enjoying yourself any more, give it a break and see if there is some other way to spend your time.

When you say a year of entering and not winning at all, I have to agree with johnnyz - limiting yourself on how many you enter/entering for big ticket/sweeps with very few prizes will limit your opportunities to win. To not win anything indicates you must enter very few sweeps, and not very regularly.

I enter 200+ a day (I usually miss only one day a week) and I win, but also go through dry spells - Sept & Oct were the Sahara for me!!! :cry: :laughing:

Most of my wins are ones you probably don't enter for - t-shirts are VERY wanted here! :laughing:

I have many friends/family that eagerly take prizes I don't want/won while going for another prize, so I go for it. Maybe look back over the listings to see if there are any sweeps with prizes you'd be able to gift?

The sweepers credo? Enter and forget it.

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants! IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win. If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.
 
I'm so sorry you aren't wining. That makes it really hard to stay motivated. lee, johnny and amy are right. like usual. :laughing: you have to spread your entries around. not just the biggie's. here are some numbers for ya.

I have entered around 9,000. sweeps in the little over a year I have been doing this. I win consistently but do have dry spells. my wins however only account for about 3 % maybe 4 % of what I have entered. That's not a lot. I have won mostly from instants followed by 1x, daily's, and unlimited. I enter for things like books,dvd, and tshirts. They are small wins but keep me motivated to keep entering and make nice gifts. I give away a big chunk of my wins. I'm not saying enter for stuff you don't want but little wins are nice too. I hope you win something great really soon. don't give up. you defenitaly wont win that way. :laughing:
 
Amherst you have won something here.........lots and lots of friends. Maybe you can't physically hold
these wins in your hands, nevertheless you have WON. Now for prizes just keep entering and let it go.
I've had so many Sahara months that it makes me want to scream but I'm not going to let a little dry
plateau hold me down. Get up and go...........yes, I mean it you are a WINNER!!! We all will be pulling for
you in ways you won't believe...........LET US KNOW WHEN THE FIRST PRIZE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT ARRIVES.

In my rough guesstimation, after several years of entering online, you will be picked as a winner once out of approx. 900 entries. If the entries you've been making don't support this, you will win very infrequently. There is such a thing as a run of bad luck - I would know - but eventually you MUST win. The odds bear this out. Only the poster knows how much and how consistently she or he has entered, but this has been the pattern I've observed.

Local contests and member sweepstakes give you better odds. Getting a freebie in the mail is fun, so you can concentrate on that to ease the pain. But I have found that no matter how poor the odds, you will win about once for every 900 entries.

Only my two pennies, of course.

Edited to add: I enter about 400 a day and win 2 or 3 times a week. HTH

I so appreciate all your thoughts about my DRY SPELL!! I may have given the wrong impression about the sweepstakes I do enter. I do enter many and not all BIG prizes--I just do not enter if it is T-shirts or some of the book sweeps. Retirement is not too far around the corner and I am trying to "down-size" on the clutter I already have.
The members of SA are Super and I thank you--I'm not ready to give up yet--I do enjoy reading many of the postings and just maybe, my LUCK will change.

Sorry about your dry spell. I know the feeling! I don't get to enter many daily sweeps and feel like I'm missing out when I read about all of the wins other members are getting. Hang in there! To ease my dry spells I sign up for a bunch of freebies. I understand about clutter, so I only get things that I will actually use. I get something in the mail almost everyday, and its a nice little diversion until I do actually win. Hope this helps and I'm sure a suprise win is on its way to you.

I can certainly understand as I have had a dry spell going on 3 months now. This afternoon decided to give it another try. Could hardly believe my eyes when I saw a winning screen. If you don't enter you can't win. Hope you win something to boost your spirits.
 
I hope you win something very soon. Be persistant! It took me a long time before winning my first prize and then I became serious. I have had some dry spells and you know? 98% of my wins have been from instant games. I enter my heart out on dailies and other entries and can never seem to win them. I still enter them in hopes of winning though.

Ah - then maybe you need to try changing when you enter - If you have a set routine, see if you can change it up. :sunny:

My husband works a rotating shift, so his entries are never at the same time from week to week, and because I enter when he's asleep/at work, neither are mine - but my favorite time to enter is early am, it seems to be when I win the most. :headbang:

Hang in there - believe you WILL win, but don't expect it, do a good purging whine when needed - it WILL help!!!

I sooooooooo did not recognize this thread as a whine - I'm off my game!!! :nono: :error: :laughing:
