our ac died - again

Grrrrrrrrrrr. It's summer {well, I say it is summer - hitting over 100 degrees in May here in Las Vegas}, so of course, our ac died - again.

It's getting to be an annual thing!!!

In fact, it had died last week {late in the day on Fri 5/16/14, and he "fixed" it on 5/19/14} Now less than a week later {it had died again on Sunday night 5/25/14}, and it's blowing out hot air - again!!!

Since 1997, they have replaced the whole unit once, the compressor at least once {probably twice, but I can't find my previous posts...}, and patched the leaky Freon/coolant line - at least once. NO clue what he did last week, since I could barely understand him, and I was woozy from only 3 hours of sleep on a sleeping pill, but because he was so quick, I assume he charged it with coolant & didn't notice a leak, probably because it was small.

But now, because of the holiday, we have been baking. I spent over $80 we could ill afford on fans to get us through it those 3 days of Fri 5/16 thru Mon 5/19 - now that it's out again, I'm doubly glad I got them!!!

Oh well, just a vent. Too hot to be on the comp much, so I'm going back to watching the 22 episodes of {marvel} Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I DVR'ed - I knew I'd watch them when the season ended, but I figured it would be closer to the start of the next season, since I forget so much anymore, lol!!!

I'm melting....

at 9:18am I talked to the guy who fixed it last week, and I talked to my apt mgr at 10am when he returned my calls - it's now after noon, and it is 101°F outside - it's probably close to that inside too!!!

Sitting here sopping wet, dripping ice water thru my hair & all over because my skin is getting hot & tight & that presages sunstroke/heat stroke & no way I'm going out like that!!!

Only problem? I *normally have a lot of these symptoms {* = normal for me with my fibro/back issues & medications} !

Heat Stroke: Symptoms and Treatment

*Throbbing headache
*Dizziness and light-headedness
New: Lack of sweating despite the heat
New: Red, hot, and dry skin
*Muscle weakness or cramps
*Nausea and vomiting
Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
Rapid, shallow breathing
*Behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation, or staggering
Seizures
Unconsciousness

Good thing we keep Gatorade in the house, and I'm drinking plenty of water too!!!

Geez, AC guy was so reasonable this am - but when I called to check on status, he acted like we never spoke & said my apt mgr never contacted him & he was busy, busy, busy!!!

Called apt mgr - he said he sent the guy a text. So I continue to bake, oh joy.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe the heat got to him?

Have you tried putting bowls of water and ice cubes in front of the fans? Ghetto AC but it helps!

103°F now - not enough ice, and the fans are too high anyway but ty - this thread is for keeping track since my memory is shot :p

Oh joy. AC guy no show, so mgr got a new guy - just talked to him, told him ac went out Sun night, I've been up since 8pm last night, and I'm disabled & afraid I'm getting heatstroke - he said he'll be over as soon as he can, so I figure another 4 hours.

I should have seen this coming - along with dying every summer, it *always* happens going into/over a holiday weekend! But, as usual, my slow brain only makes the connection after the fact!

On episode 12 of {marvel} Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm glad I DVR'd this & have it to watch right now, it's a great distraction!!!

YAY, he showed!!! I got bumped to the head of the line - I swear, these guys have tighter/worse schedules than Dr's!!!

But... my idea that there was a leak {to explain why 1st guy fixed it & a week later it died} ot that it was the compressor again? He says he thinks it's something else/worse, so fingers crossed he can git 'er done in the 2 hours of daylight left!!!

That will out me at 23 hrs up, but if he fixes it, it will be worth the suffering!!!

OK, turned out 1st guy missed a pinhole leak, which is now a big leak, and will tave several hours to fix. He will return around noon/1pm to fix it. Original ac guy showed up later, but left when I told him we had someone else. What a cluster!!!

So, 3 days, 100+ temps, just ate for the 1st time in days & am thinking of ducking out to a casino to beat the heat - that's what DH did yesterday, and he hit a $1684 royal, YAY!!!

11:42 am - AC guy called to say he'd be here w/in the hour, YAY!!!

It's *only* 94°F {feels like 97°F} and DH & DS went down to my moms when he got home from the casino last night & picked up her vornado Circulators

Looks like this one: 660 Circulator

OK, he's here & working on it! At least 2 hours of work, and poor Bob has to go in for mid shift {graveyard} tonight PLUS he's on 12's thru Sunday!!!

Wowsa, he just called down {he's on the roof} to turn on the AC - I wonder if he's actually done or this is part of the leak test?

I cant imagine being in LV with no a/c..bout as bad as NM without it..already been 100 degrees out. When I first got here, had no a/c so slept in the bathtub (because it stayed cool) or just outside on the deck, dodging tarantulas and weird stuff. LOL. I clocked the temp in the bedroom one day at 117. That is crazy.

Since '93, we have gone thru 115+ temps with AC outages lasting up to a week at least 5 times {1st was for 2 weeks at my moms condo when she was off on an RV trip when we had just moved from Fla.}, with mini outages every other year it seems.

We are in an upstairs, 2 bd, 2 ba unit, where only 3 of the 6 rooms get cooled - the ducts need to be cleaned/fixed, but as a renter...

Hope you both manage to stay cool. It isn't even summer yet!

No ac here (it makes me sick), just trade winds and normal temp in the eighties. Hate when we have hot days.

Bermuda was like that - only really needed a JACKET when we rode our bikes/scooters - that wind would cut!!!

In LV, we don't have seasons - it's just hot, hot & windy, & in Nov/Dec it can get muy frio in the am, but not always, loll!!!

6:30 pm..102° . Gonna be a long summer ! Up North in Oregon..had no need for A/C , didnt even know anybody that HAD A/C !! We used to have alot of power outages also, but last few years, none to speak of..and thats amazing. When I first came here..if it DID rain (LOL/maybe 1-2 xs a yr) the power ALWAYS went out ! We had no rain or snow to even warrent a winter, so its been dry a long time..I cant imagine June.July and August right now *sigh*

What I dislike is the humidity - Fla was miserable! In '93 when we moved from Fla to NV, it was a dry {oven} heat here, with little/negligible humidity, then with all the construction & water attractions since, it's getting worse every year.

yes, Humidity does make it miserable, but I still hate when peeps say..at least it is a dry heat..right..you come hang out when its 110 and tell me then..LOL..LOL
