Nicknames and 1099s

I'm sure many of you enter contest using your nickname, as I do. The one time I had a 1099, I told the company what my given name is (which is the one the IRS knows), but they didn't change it. The IRS hasn't complained, so I guess it's ok. Still, I wonder what others do? Do you bother to try to get the sponsor to change the 1099? Do you write down your nickname as an "aka" on your taxes (do they even have that option)?

Just wondering since I will soon be getting my second 1099.
 
If you mean a shortened version of a name, "Dan" for "Danny", it shouldn't made a difference! I always use full names for sweeping though.
 
I've never encountered that problem but, I always use my real name unless it asks for a username in addition to real name. :scratch:
 
I'd say 99% of the time it shouldn't matter.

I've gone by Jeff and Jeffrey (legally, I'm Jeffrey) on all sorts of sweeps forms and have never had a problem.
 
Well, I was thinking a little beyond "Sam" for "Samuel" or "Chris" for "Christine".

Examples:

"Trey" for someone who is a third (like John Smith III)
"Flynn" for someone named John Flynn Smith
"Tracey" for Theresa
"Wendy" for Gwendolyn
"Jack" for John
"Teddy" for Edward
"Anne" for Joanne
Etc.
