Hi ! In january 2023 I won an xbox from xbox twitter microsoft corp. It was valued at 691.00 and a w9 form was required for them to send the prize. All that went well and I got the prize. So now it's tax time and I am waiting for the 1099 misc . It should have been sent to me by january 31 2024. I have tried contacting the twitter page, facebook page, the original contact person whose email bounced and on the phone for 3 hours with microsoft various dept. Guess I will just claim it as misc income . I just didn't want to get audited or flagged by the irs for not submitting the 1099. Any advice? Thanks!

I am still waiting for mine. I won the Miller contest back in Aug 2023. The prize was 20,000 dollars, I got to pay the taxes on that amount and it is March 12, 2024 and have not received my 1099 form.

I have encountered this at least three times that I can remember.

For two of them (one was a huge Disney win with deluxe accommodations, airfare, tickets, & $1500 in gift cards), I had priced everything myself and just filled out what I could to claim on my taxes. I wasn't risking them coming back later. For the 2nd I did the same, although value was nowhere near as high. Both of these I requested several times from both the sponsor & the agency that handled it.

For the last one, it was Caesars entertainment - a trip to Atlantic City for 2. I did the same & priced everything out. I emailed several times prior to filing. When the time came to file, I seriously forgot to add it in. Luckily no repercussions! I think the estimated value on that one was either $1700 or $2700.

I wouldn't dare knowingly not claim it. Now....if they never asked for my SS#? :giggle:
