I did a search and couldn't find this anywhere, so I thought I would post something about it here since it is actually a "contest". Nothing you're gonna get rich on ... but maybe you can snag your 15 minutes of fame!
This is the International Photo Contest. Found at:

You can win a Digital Camera, Trip to D.C. .... there is 3 different categories you can enter: People, Places, and Nature.
For the English Language Version of the contest:
"The First Place winner in each Category will each receive a digital camera kit. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") of each first prize is $1,000. .... In addition, each First Place winner in each Category will automatically be entered into the Worldwide National Geographic International Photography Contest, in which the winners from this Contest and other National Geographic local contests being conducted in other countries around the world will compete."
So, if you make it to the International finals:
"The First Place winner in each Category will receive a trip to National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., for himself or herself for five (5) days and four (4) nights on dates to be specified by Sponsor, in December 2008 or early 2009, including round-trip coach-class air transportation to and from the major airport closest to winners home, hotel accommodations for four (4) nights, an awards ceremony, a U.S. $50 gift certificate to the National Geographic store, and U.S. $460 in spending money."
Sounded good to me! So, I went off and entered my pics!
Only things you have to know is that you can submit only 6 photos only in total, All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or .jpg format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). and so on with the fine print.
